Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia and Atlanta Braves Team Up for MLB Prostate Cancer Awareness Day

Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia (RCOG) and the Atlanta Braves have teamed up for Prostate Cancer Awareness Day to be held at Turner Field on Wednesday, June 4, 2008.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 29, 2008 -- Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia (RCOG) has teamed up with MLB team the Atlanta Braves for Prostate Cancer Awareness Day. The day is designed to raise prostate cancer awareness and will be held at Turner Field on June 4, 2008.

The game will include various coordinated efforts to help better educate the crowd about the risks of prostate cancer. The first pitch will be thrown by a prostate cancer patient, and four other RCOG patients will be part of the on-field reception. In addition there will be over 300 prostate cancer patients and guests of RCOG wearing identical shirts to help increase visibility of the disease, and other RCOG prostate cancer patients will be singing the national anthem with the Stone Mountain Barbershop Chorus.

The physicians at RCOG walked me and my wife through the entire process. After considering all my treatment options I was convinced that RCOG's ProstRcision treatment was the best choice for me. I have no doubt that ProstRcision at RCOG saves men's lives -- I'm positive it saved mine.
Prostate cancer is the most frequent cancer diagnosis for men in the U.S.A. and is the most common cancer among men over age fifty. The rates of prostate cancer diagnoses continue to grow at a rampant pace. If prostate cancer is detected early, it is very curable with the proper treatment.

"RCOG is excited about the opportunity to work with the (Atlanta) Braves for Prostate Cancer Awareness Day," explains John Critz, Vice President of Marketing for RCOG. "By working with the Braves we can further educate men about prostate cancer and the importance of being screened. And as a world leader in prostate cancer treatment, we at Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia have long felt a responsibility to do all we can for prostate cancer education. Working with the Braves brings much-needed additional visibility to this disease."

RCOG patient John Leak will appear on the Jumbotron in a public service announcement about prostate cancer awareness with Braves manager Bobby Cox prior to the game. Mr. Leak, a prostate cancer crusader as well as an RCOG patient, said, "The physicians at RCOG walked me and my wife through the entire process. After considering all my treatment options I was convinced that RCOG's ProstRcision treatment was the best choice for me. I have no doubt that ProstRcision at RCOG saves men's lives -- I'm positive it saved mine."

Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia is based in metro Atlanta and is a leading prostate cancer radiotherapy treatment specialist. RCOG physicians have treated over 12,000 men with prostate cancer. For over 25 years RCOG has treated men with prostate cancer from all 50 states and over 40 different countries. RCOG is also renowned for its ProstRcision prostate cancer treatment, which is a combined radiation treatment procedure that involves seeds and external beam radiation. RCOG has the highest documented cure rates in the world for prostate cancer.

It is important that men are aware of prostate cancer and the importance of being screened. The American Cancer Society recommends that men begin being screened annually at age 50. African-American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer should start being screened at age 40.

If you or someone you know is diagnosed with prostate cancer, many prostate cancer treatment options are available, but with limited exceptions a man only has a single chance of being cured. Therefore it is critical for men to learn as much as they can about prostate cancer cure rates and treatment side effects before deciding on a particular method of treatment.

About Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia:
Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia is the exclusive source for ProstRcision. Each year over 1000 men travel to Atlanta, GA to be cured of their prostate cancer at RCOG's seven metro-Atlanta facilities. Frank Critz, M.D., is founder and Medical Director of Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia (RCOG) and an internationally-recognized authority on prostate cancer treatment. Dr. Critz is also Director of Prostate Cancer Research at RCOG and has authored 71 peer-reviewed research papers that have been presented and/or published in major medical meetings or medical journals on prostate cancer.
