"The street outside the State Theatre Box Office was buzzing with excitement," says MyNorth.com marketing director Rachel North. "People camped out overnight, some for days, and claimed they were exhausted, but you couldn't tell from the energy level." On the video, North interviews folks who stood in line with their dogs, braved thunderstorms, drove all night through tornados and dressed up as Madonna.

Patrons of the 2008 Traverse City Film Festival can pick up Filmgoer, Traverse's annual city guide tailored exclusively to the film fest. The guide is packed with tips to find live entertainment, quick bites, gourmet meals, cocktails, beaches and other attractions, plus maps, festival facts, shuttle routes and need-to-know info like where park, find restrooms or purchase sundries. Filmgoer will be in the August issue of Traverse, Northern Michigan's Magazine--sent to subscribers and available on newsstands in mid-July. The guide will also be available as a single issue online at MyNorth.com/store.

Additionally, film aficionados may subscribe to MyNorth.com's free Filmgoer e-newsletter at mynorth.com/newsletters, to stay in the loop on the Traverse City Film Festival and other cinematic happenings around the Northern Michigan.

The documentary I Am Because We Are, written, produced and narrated by Madonna, is part of the fourth annual Traverse City Film Festival and will be shown on August 2, at 8:00 p.m. at the State Theatre. Madonna will introduce the film about the one million orphans in Malawi who've lost their parents to AIDS. All the ticket money, $25 per ticket, will go to the Raising Malawi Foundation, a project of Madonna's that helps that country and its orphans.

Half the tickets were sold on Saturday, June 7. The other half of the tickets will be sold by lottery to those who belong to the Friends of the Traverse City Film Festival. Anyone can join the Friends, and those interested in I Am Because We Are tickets must do so by Thursday, June 12 in order to qualify for the lottery drawing. People can join Friends of the Traverse City Film Festival online or in person at the State Theatre box office. Friends who would like to purchase up to two tickets to the Madonna appearance and film must send a postcard to TCFF Lottery, PO Box 4064, Traverse City MI 49685. Postcards must be received by 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 12. Postcards may also be dropped off at the State Theatre box office by Thursday at 5 p.m. Information on the postcard should include name, mailing address, email address, phone number, and number of tickets desired (maximum two). The drawing will be held Friday, June 13 and winners will be notified by email or phone.
