Wooton Desk
Wooton Desk

It is a very rare piece of furniture particularly in this part of the country. The superior grade is in museums and many wealthy society members at that time owned one including J. D. Rockefeller.
A highlight of the sale is a very rare, carved Wooton patent desk, circa 1874, standard model with gilt brass hardware. These desks were only made from 1870-1884. It is basically a whole office with file slots, cubbies, a mail slot on the front, burled walnut panels, a fall-front writing surface and a document compartment concealed as trim. "We've had over 1600 auctions and this one is only the third one we've offered," said Ross Featherston, auctioneer. "It is a very rare piece of furniture particularly in this part of the country. The superior grade is in museums and many wealthy society members at that time owned one including J. D. Rockefeller."

Many other exceptional items in the sale include New Orleans artwork, sterling silver water pitchers, goblets and table items, an Empire Chest Secretary, a Rolla Taylor painting entitled "San Antonio River," an American Indian painting by Heinie Hartwig, a fine pair of Georgian mahogany fitted knife boxes and other significant pieces. The collectible book collection includes American Civil War era books, early Texas Souvenir booklets, New Orleans vintage books, Antique Texas books, yearbooks, and many more. The clock collection includes rare items such as a Seth Thomas calendar clock, a Waltham tubular grandfather clock and an antique American Waterbury porcelain mantle clock with enchanting flower motifs.

Another highlight of the sale is a Parker 25' offshore center-console fishing boat going for no minimum.

The auction is being held at 8414 Anderson Mill Road in Austin, Texas, and starts at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28th. Inspection: Friday, June 27th, 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., and Sale Day inspection: 4:00 p.m. Bidding is available online through eBay Live Auctions/LiveAuctioneers.com or by phone, floor and absentee.
