American Team Garmin-Chipotle Using Cincinnati Sub-Zero Products in 2008 Tour de France

Cycling's 'Clean Team' sets another new and innovative standard in sports performance therapies, marking an industry first in surface cooling product application.
Everyone knows what it's like to try to work or sleep when it's too hot out. Imagine if that heat is radiating from within you. It goes without saying that an athlete who stays cool will perform better. CSZ products make it possible for our riders to do just that, literally to keep a 'cool head,' safely and effectively.

Cincinnati (PRWEB) July 7, 2008 -- Cincinnati Sub-Zero (CSZ) Medical, a division of CSZ Products, Inc. and the leader in the design and development of advanced patient temperature management solutions, today announced an industry-first use of its cooling products by an internationally renowned American cycling team. The team, officially 'Team Garmin-Chipotle Presented by H30,' is using CSZ head wraps and Electri-Cool® II units with cold therapy pads to aid in rider recovery during the current 2008 Tour de France.

The Tour de France, the world's largest cycle race, is well known for its nearly month-long, 2,000-plus-mile, grueling course. Team Garmin-Chipotle is one of only two American teams on this year's July 5th-27th race roster. Well -established in riding event success, Team Garmin-Chipotle also is differentiating itself with groundbreaking openness and innovation. The team's members voluntarily submit themselves to a higher incidence of testing and the team's staff work hard to develop unique and ethical competitive edges. CSZ localized surface cooling therapy application is one such pioneering advancement.

Team Physiologist Allen Lim, PhD, explained the science behind the decision to use CSZ. "We've observed increased core temperatures in cyclists following an event, enough so that it impairs a rider's ability to sleep well. Already aware of the recovery benefits of surface cooling in the medical arena, we followed up a theory regarding possible cyclist treatment outcomes. With a bit of testing, we found that CSZ cooling products help to return our athletes to an anabolic state faster, facilitating a better night's sleep and placing them in a superior physical state for the next day's ride."

CSZ Medical Vice President and General Manager Mark Beran said, "Our cooling solutions are highly proven in clinical effectiveness, demonstrating improved neurological outcome in life-critical circumstances. Implementations such as post sudden cardiac arrest, stroke, traumatic head and brain injury, even neonatal asphyxia all are common occurrences. Today marks the start of another new chapter in patient temperature management best practices. We are honored that Team Garmin-Chipotle is using our products, encouraged by the team's innovative vision, and humbled by the growing incidence of beneficial product applications."

Said Dr Lim, "Everyone knows what it's like to try to work or sleep when it's too hot out. Imagine if that heat is radiating from within you. It goes without saying that an athlete who stays cool will perform better. CSZ products make it possible for our riders to do just that, literally to keep a 'cool head,' safely and effectively."
