Biz Kid$: Show for Ambitious Kids Airs on KBTC, PBS

Starting Jan. 9 for 26 consecutive Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m., the PBS program Biz Kid$ will air in the greater Seattle area on KBTC, the Tacoma PBS station.

Tacoma, WA (PRWEB) January 7, 2008 -- Puget Sound youngsters have an outstanding opportunity to learn how to make money, manage it, and how to become entrepreneurs - if they watch a certain PBS TV program every Wednesday night for the next six months.

The 30-minute program, Biz Kid$, was created by the award-winning innovators of "Bill Nye, the Science Guy" - Jamie Hammond, Erren Gottlieb and James McKenna. Starting Jan. 9 for 26 consecutive Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m., the PBS program will air in the greater Seattle area on KBTC, the Tacoma PBS station.

Biz Kid$ is an informative and highly entertaining program, which is actually a Junior Achievement initiative. It's a dynamic, multi-media presentation that teaches financial literacy to kids, and features profiles of real-life school-age entrepreneurs.

The program's Web site, www.bizkids.com, features blogging opportunities, games, video clips, and a Junior Achievement-created lesson for each episode. The lessons are suitable for use by classroom helpers, teachers and parents.

For more tips on how children can become entrepreneurs, make money and helping it grow, an eNewsletter called "The Vault" is available as a learning tool.

The Washington Credit Union Foundation spearheaded a national campaign for exclusive underwriting of the Biz Kid$ production. So, the program originated in the Puget Sound area and will be broadcast on PBS throughout the nation.

The broadcast on KBTC is sponsored by TAPCO Credit Union, www.tapcocu.org.

"I applaud TAPCO for helping us address the need for financial literacy and creating a positive behavior change in our young people," said David Moore, president of Junior Achievement. "We know that children who have confidence in their own abilities will make correct decisions now and in the future."

The Biz Kid$ creators - Hammond, Gottlieb and McKenna - started out with Nye on "Almost Live," the iconic Saturday night comedy that first aired on KING-TV in Seattle. Then, they created "Bill Nye, the Science Guy" which later aired on PBS and won 26 Emmy awards.
