Portland, Maine (PRWEB) January 11, 2008 -- Celebrating a year of sharing original works of radio drama (aka audio theater) to a loyal fan-base extending from the Portland, Maine area to internet listeners abroad, the weekly radio show/podcast Radio Drama Revival! is proud to announce the first American broadcast of a thrilling black drama by Crazy Dog Audio Theater of Dublin, Ireland. The show, "The Salmon of Blackpool," will air from 1:00 to 1:30 PM EST Thursdays for the remainder of January on 90.9/104.1 FM WMPG in Portland, Maine (http://www.wmpg.org) and be podcast thereafter at http://www.radiodramarevival.com.
"The Salmon of Blackpool" is the latest work by the acclaimed Crazy Dog Audio Theater, an indepedent audio theater production company regularly commissioned by RTÉ Radio (the public service broadcaster of Ireland) to produce comedies, tragedies, drama and satire works featuring the finest voice actors in Ireland and top-notch production quality. Crazy Dog Audio Theater's work is characterized by field recorded sound, film-quality sound effects and stellar original scores.
Cinematic in scope, "The Salmon of Blackpool" tells the story of Richie Ryan, a promising Irish screenwriter who is commissioned by Hollywood to write the feel-good biopic of legendary Irish actor, Johnny Gallagher. The assignment brings Ryan back to his hometown of Cork to encounter a volatile man in the throes of a deadly degenerative disease -- a world where it is tough to find the "feel good."
Penned by Roger Gregg, Crazy Dog's writer/producer/actor powerhouse, "The Salmon of Blackpool" is a tale laden with ugly realities and the desperate search for hope and promise when life's outcome looks grim. Crazy Dog's customary wit and wordplay is never far beneath the surface, and the expertly crafted tale is brought to life by the amazing talents of Crazy Dog regulars David Murray, Michael Sheehan, Georgina Miller and Roger Gregg himself.
"The Salmon of Blackpool is one of those stories that makes you realize how much potential there is with audio," said Frederick Greenhalgh, host of Radio Drama Revival! "From its first opening seconds, 'Salmon' casts a spell that never lets you go, from the beginning to the end of four fabulous episodes."
Greenhalgh is also pleased that the broadcast of "The Salmon of Blackpool" coincides with the one year anniversary of the show. "The only way to celebrate is to share more and more great stories. We've covered wide territory in the show, but 'Salmon' truly exceeds what listeners have come to expect from radio drama."
Hardcore audio theater fans and newcomers alike can tune in to the first episode of "Salmon" 1:00 to 1:30 EST this Thursday, January 10, at 90.9/104.1FM in the Portland, Maine area or via live streaming at http://www.wmpg.org.
