New Multigenerational Women's Fiction Book Takes Root in American Family History

Pioneer hardship meets the magic of Hollywood's Golden Era in Chasing a Dream, a saga of women strong, determined and desperate.

Hollywood, Calif. (PRWEB) January 17, 2008 -- Inspired by the fact that the lives of women have changed in a multitude of ways in the past 150 years, Chasing a Dream is author and playwright Sharon Michaels' refreshing rendition of this historical family saga. This novel explores the last of the pioneer generation and the industrial, cultural, and social changes wrought by the twentieth century, and the American Dream.

Chasing a Dream's matriarch sets an unusual precedent in the late 1890s, evincing racial equality in both her business practice and personal life. The uproar she causes in her small pioneer town is equal to the respect she earns from everyone but her daughter-in-law, who is fighting a war with her own demons.

It is the characters that set Chasing a Dream apart from other multigenerational fiction. Michaels' ability to bring characters to life shines through in this first novel. Revealing the complexities of a time in which a woman's struggle for survival was both quiet and often desperate, Michaels creates insight out of hardship.
