Shared Moments -- A Book About One Family's Journey Through Grief and Healing

To lose a child is the greatest loss of all for a parent. To have a loving youngster taken away early in life is a catastrophe for a family --because the heartbreak and the sense of immense loss can remain forever.

(PRWEB) January 25, 2008 -- Shared Moments -- a book about one family's journey through grief and healing.

To lose a child is the greatest loss of all for a parent. To have a loving youngster taken away early in life is a catastrophe for a family --because the heartbreak and the sense of immense loss can remain forever.

We grieve, but there is no prescription that tells us how to grieve. The grieving process itself is a winding pathway, strewn with roadblocks, hurdles and potholes; yet, it is a pathway that must be taken if we are to have hope of re-building our lives, and become whole again.

A decade ago, Carol Poduch and her husband Tony, were a typical happy couple living in Ontario, Canada. They had two daughters -- Lauren and her older sister Kimberly -- and their lives were rich and full. They enjoyed successful careers, a loving family life, and a wide circle of good friends.

And then, on a lovely summer's day in 1999, their world fell apart. Nine-year-old Lauren sustained severe brain injuries in an accident on the water -- and five days later, she drew her last breath. In one brief, horrible moment, a family's happy life was shattered.

The years after Lauren's death were enormously difficult, but Carol Poduch somehow found the strength to put into words her family's journey through grief and healing. Her new publication, entitled Shared Moments: Finding the Spirit of Hope, is a book written with the express purpose of helping others to find hope in response to significant loss.

The book comprises a series of stories and vignettes that guide the reader through the grief journey experienced by the Poduch family -- from the initial shock through, ultimately, to a place of peaceful resolution and a new beginning. The author's conversational writing style draws the reader into her world in a manner guaranteed to draw tears -- and even moments of joy and laughter.

Shared Moments is an important book for any bereaved person and their supporters, but it is much more than that. The reflections on love, hope, fear and anxiety expressed in the book are universal -- every reader will experience what grief is about and will gain a better understanding of how hope can lead to a path of healing after the loss of a loved one.

Shared Moments is a book that will be experienced in many ways. The book will invite the reader to pause and reflect on the nature of life, of loss and of the power of hope after loss.
