Stowe's Most Historic Inn Offers Room Giveaway to Launch Celebration of 175th Anniversary

Green Mountain Inn's properties are listed as 13 and 14 on the National Register of Historical Places, and to celebrate they are offering room giveaways and deals for trips.

Stowe, VT (PRWEB) January 25, 2008 -- To kick off a year-long celebration of their 175th anniversary, the Green Mountain Inn will surprise their 175th guest in January and June with accommodations on the house. Upon check-in, the lucky guest will receive their stay for free (maximum of two nights) as compliments of the inn and as gratitude for their patronage.

The Green Mountain Inn was built as a private dwelling house in 1833 but was later traded for a farm and turned into a hotel complete with a dance hall, called the Mansfield House. It was renamed the Brick House in the late 1800s, and then renamed again by owner Mark Lovejoy who gave the property its now famous name, the Green Mountain Inn.

Over the years the inn has hosted many famous visitors, including Lowell Thomas, who made regular broadcasts from the inn, President Gerald Ford, who stayed at the inn as a student on a modeling assignment for Look Magazine, and President Chester A. Arthur, who acted in a theatrical production at the inn. There have also been many innkeepers over the years, including the famous Parker Perry, who owned the Stowe mountain resort for more than 35 years.

In 1982 the inn was purchased by Marvin Gameroff, a Canadian visitor to Stowe who fell in love with the property and began a massive restoration project including the additions of the Mansfield and Mill House. In 2008, the Stowe mountain resort is celebrating a milestone of 175 years in existence, with properties that rank at the top of the National Register of Historical Places
