Piano Videos On-line Now Available Free From Keyboard Workshop

Online videos about piano playing using chords and chord progressions are now available from Keyboard Workshop on their PlayPiano.com web site. A variety of free videos covering many different aspects of piano playing from sight-reading to music theory to chord playing, and is suitable for beginning and intermediate adults and advanced pianists who already play well but don't know chords or improvisation.

Medford, Oregon (PRWEB) January 26, 2008 -- Many exciting new videos from Keyboard Workshop are now available free online at PlayPiano.com.

The free videos are produced by Duane Shinn, who has created over 300 specialized courses on DVD and CD for adults about various aspects of piano playing and chord formations. These free online videos are each about 10 minutes long and cover a wide variety of piano techniques and styles, as well as music theory and the use of chords in arranging and improvisation.

Shinn says that "Chords are a way in to the world of piano playing without having to go through years and years of scales, drills, rote practicing, and so on. Chords are really a shortcut to understanding and playing music without all the formal training. Formal training by a local piano teacher is fine if you have the time and money. But most adults don't want to wait forever before they can play something enjoyable on the piano."

Shinn took lessons when he was a child, but found it boring because his teacher insisted that he play the written music exactly as it was written. "Without the sheet music in front of me" Shinn wrote, "I didn't have a clue what to do. But I had the good fortune to learn chords when I was a young man playing in a jazz group. Now I understand what I'm doing because now I understand chord theory and chord progressions."

Some of the free videos on his site include:

  • How to add runs & fills to your piano playing
  • 7 Quick Ways To Add Flavor To Any Song (How To Color Without Crayons!)
  • Piano Fingering Video: Which Finger Goes Where, and Why.
  • Scales Video: Major Scales & 3 Varieties of Minor Scales
  • How to play a jazz waltz using "frozen fingers"
  • How many chords are there, anyway?
  • Three chords you absolutely, positively have to know!
