A Bright Future for Presidential Scholarship Award Winner Matthew Salanoa

Top Art School Makes High School Student's Dreams Come True

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 24, 2008 -- Academy of Art University is passionately dedicated to helping students realize their potential in art and design. Matthew Salanoa is one of the many aspiring artists and designers who have been assisted in pursuing their educational goals through the Academy's art scholarship program. Salanoa, a student at the Academy's film school, received Presidential Scholarship Award, bestowing him with four years of free tuition.

Shavon Grayson, an Academy Outreach Representative, presented the Pre-College Art Experience programs at Salanoa's alma mater, John O'Connell High School, a San Francisco public school. These high school art programs are a way for high school students to get a head start in art and design and thus, only ninth through eleventh graders are eligible.

Matthew is a standout student and it is my honor to assist him.
An art teacher at John O'Connell High School, introduced Shavon to Salanoa and told her that he really wanted to attend Academy of Art University. Since Salanoa was a senior, he was not eligible for any of the Pre-College scholarships. Grayson was inspired by Matthew and went to Academy President Dr. Elisa Stephens to see if there was something they could do for him.

"Since the Academy's scholarship program was founded over forty years ago, we have helped over 45,000 aspiring artists and designers achieve their dreams in art and design," said Dr. Stephens. "Matthew is a standout student and it is my honor to assist him."

Salanoa also had amazing opportunity to meet Dr. Stephens and give her a private screening of his films.

"I was really excited," he recalled. "It made me more comfortable coming here."

Now in his second semester at the Academy, Salanoa is thoroughly enjoying classes. From acting class to screenwriting class, Salanoa is learning skills he never even fathomed. After graduation, he hopes to make an independent film with a friend before he dives into the film industry.

Marty Williams, the Instructional Reform Facilitator at John O'Connell, sees great things in Salanoa's future.

"I will put no limits on my expectations for his work and I can't wait to see where his drive and sensibilities will take him in the film world and the world at large."

The city of San Francisco is the foundation of Academy of Art University - its natural beauty and cultural diversity serves as constant artistic inspiration. As a way of expressing its gratitude toward the city of San Francisco, the Academy is dedicated to preserving its environment, enriching the community and reaching out to those in need.
