Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) February 26, 2008 -- Liz Adams, the next American Film Institute (AFI) success story, is premiering her new short narrative project titled SIDE EFFECT on March 6th in Hollywood at AFI. Adams is currently a participant in AFI's prestigious Directing Workshop for Women (DWW). AFI's DWW acknowledges only those women who have displayed excellence in the areas of film, television and theatre.

Following in the footsteps of such renowned AFI-DWW artists as Maya Angelou, Lesli Linka Glatter, and Randa Haines, Adams carries on the legacy of greatness with her film SIDE EFFECT, but walks to her own beat. In a recent report compiled at San Diego State University it was concluded that "women in film were most likely to work on documentaries and romantic comedies and least likely to work on science fiction and horror features." Adams is bravely tackling the latter with SIDE EFFECT.

"I love a good scary movie! The genre can be so incredibly shocking, yet so fascinating and compelling at the same time," explains Adams. "I hope that my perspective will provoke deep emotion and alarm viewers with an innovative and unexpected approach."

Adam's SIDE EFFECT is a blood-curdling tale of science gone wrong in a pill-popping culture where the cure is more deadly than the disease. SIDE EFFECT asks the question, "What if evil came in a pill?" In this dark film, the teenaged Lauren is babysitting two children when the 'Jekyll and Hyde' side effect of her new prescription medication unleashes in her the urge to kill.

Set in a world where the pressure to perform is at an all time high and the demand for coping strategies has given rise to a pharmaceutical industry that stakes it's existence upon the sale of expensive chemical relief for our self inflicted modern symptoms, Adams' SIDE EFFECT poses the question, "Who bears responsibility when teenagers demand, doctors recommend and parents consent to the use of powerful psychotropic drugs to give kids an edge in an increasingly competitive and toxic culture?"

A private premiere screening and celebration for SIDE EFFECT will be held in Hollywood at AFI's Mark Goodson Screening Room on Thursday, March 6th at 8:00pm.
