The founder of Our-Social.com is not a tech nerd or a college student but a middle aged grandmother. For the past couple of years, she had been looking for an online community that was free of profanity and pornographic material, user-friendly and protects the privacy of it's members. Unable to find a social network that meet this criteria, she created Our-Social.com
"Our-Social.com is the clean safe alternative to the prominent social networking sites," said founder Theresa Adams. The site's word filter prevents members from being exposed to profanity and lewd or sexual comments - as well as racial slurs and hate speech. To further ensure that the site remains clear of offensive material and is safe for all ages, all pictures, videos and audio clips go through an approval process - which takes place within 24 hours of submission - before they are posted. As another safety precaution, Our-Social does not have a chat area but does provide a members-only forum.
Members have their own account page, which serves as a personalized control panel, where users can manage all aspects of their account. Management activities include selecting a variety of custom design profile pages, setting privacy levels, creating articles, checking mail, inviting friends to join and creating numerous picture, video and audio albums.
Another feature that has been recently added is a calendar. You can create as many calendars as you like. The individual calendar can be set to different privacy levels. That means while all members maybe able to view a particular calendar, another calendar from the same person might only be accessible to members who have been designated as friends.
