Based on Actual Events, New Book Portrays One Family's Aching Desire for Acceptance

Author Heyward R. Inabinett shares his painful past in Triangular Pegs.

St. Helena Island, SC (PRWEB) February 28, 2008 -- "Triangular Pegs" by Heyward R. Inabinett reveals the effect of interracial relationships on one Southern family, from the days of slavery through the 1960s when laws were formed to disenfranchise African Americans of any equality that might have been gained from the Civil War.

In "Triangular Pegs", Inabinett recounts the plight of his family's past. Both his mother and father were products of miscegenation. Both had African American blood running through their veins, yet both appeared to be white. As a result, neither one was accepted by either race's society. Subjected to the same prejudices as his parents, Inabinett equally fought to be accepted.

Through the book, Inabinett describes the difficulty he faced while performing simple acts such as walking down the street, using public toilet facilities of either race, and riding on public transportation. He reflects on his experience in the U.S. Army, serving three years as a white man and three as an African American. He also relates the obstacles he and his wife encountered, given that their marriage appeared to be interracial, but in spite of all his struggles, Inabinett found a way to maintain his dignity, sanity, and independence.

Depicting the conditions and attitudes of both blacks and whites, Triangular Pegs, is a profound and inspiring testament to the power of determination.
