Somebody's Always Hungry in Mother's Day Release

Author Juliet Myfanwy Johnson launches a new website intended to promote her book and provide a home for mothers.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 27, 2008 -- Somebody's Always Hungry is an often funny (and surprisingly touching) collection of essays detailing life raising kids from birth to age five years old.

I grew up hanging around the back lot of Universal Studios with my brothers while my dad made television shows... especially under the shadow of his classic, The Bionic Woman. I grew up thinking a woman had to be beautiful and be able to run really fast in slow motion while working for the government. Finding out how to be a regular mom without superpowers has been enlightening.
This is not the orderly, glossy parenting magazine view of child rearing, but a messy-life look at how it all slams from sixty m.p.h. to zero in those five to six pushes during labor, and continues through
the next five years (and counting) bringing up those babies. These 34 essays, by Juliet Myfanwy Johnson, entertain the daily-frazzled mother because all the ripped seams show, from "dating" the preschool parents to burying dead rabbits, being crammed in a family bed, arguing with people under two feet tall, the endless food, the fighting, the horror, the love. The constant chaos is salved by the author's elevated sense of whimsy.

Said Juliet recently: "I grew up hanging around the back lot of Universal Studios with my brothers while my dad made television shows... especially under the shadow of his classic, The Bionic Woman. I grew up thinking a woman had to be beautiful and be able to run really fast in slow motion while working for the government. Finding out how to be a regular mom without superpowers has been enlightening."

Juliet Johnson's non-fiction has been published in Los Angeles Family, Mamazine, MOMbo and The Imperfect Parent, as well as in two anthologies of short stories. She is a produced playwright and would-be screenwriter (twelve screenplays). She also has written a short novel and a collection of short stories called Open Wider.

The website at http://www.somebodysalwayshungry.com began as a vehicle to promote and sell Somebody's Always Hungry the book, but quickly became much more. Now it is a home for mothers to spend ten minutes or a couple of weeks, including recent mothers, would-be's, used-to-be's and all those who have known a mother sometime in their lives. The site offers advice, escapes, diversions, inspirations, complaints and child-rearing horror stories. As well as essays from the book and an
in-depth look at Juliet Johnson's skewed perspective on being a mother, a perspective which makes imperfection almost honorable.
