Former Educator Voices Concerns About Public Schools in Enlightening Book

Dr. Renato Nicolai scrutinizes the state of American public education and offers practical, no-nonsense solutions in his socially relevant new book "The Nightmare That Is Public Education: An Exposé of What Really Happens in Public Schools."

Roseville, CA (PRWEB) March 10, 2008 -- Dr. Renato Nicolai scrutinizes the state of American public education and offers practical, no-nonsense solutions in his socially relevant new book "The Nightmare That Is Public Education: An Exposé of What Really Happens in Public Schools."

Take just a quick look at the effects of the past half-century's attempted educational reforms and it's clear the American public school system has been in decline for the last 50 years, says author and retired educator Renato Nicolai. In his eye-opening new book, "The Nightmare That Is Public Education: An Exposé of What Really Happens in Public Schools" (ISBN 9780595436149, iUniverse, 2007), Dr. Nicolai gives his assessment of public education, based on 38 years of experience as a teacher and school administrator.

"The Nightmare That Is Public Education" outlines Nicolai's concerns with the public education system, provides effective classroom strategies for teachers and shows parents how they can make a strong, positive impact on their child's education. Of his career, Nicolai says the best experiences were seeing students learn to their potential under superb teachers, and the worst were realizing that many teachers should never have been allowed to enter a classroom.

"The public education system is rooted in the false notion that all teachers are qualified educators who can be trusted to make good decisions, follow school district rules and regulations, work together in a spirit of collegiality, promote the welfare of students as a priority, and generally, do what is just, moral and professional," Nicolai says. "This description is simply not true." The first chapter of "The Nightmare That is Public Education" outlines the eight qualities that most teachers do not possess. By learning these essentials, Nicolai argues that teachers can advance student learning to new heights.

The book also gives teachers useful, proven methods for maintaining classroom discipline and control, preparing a classroom's physical environment as a learning tool and eliminating wasted instructional time. Nicolai draws back the curtain on America's public school system, candidly exposing its flaws, but not without providing well-informed suggestions for remedy. "The Nightmare That Is Public Education" guides parents, teachers and concerned taxpayers toward appropriate actions that hold the power to turn this nightmare into a pleasant dream.
