An Hommage to the Heroes of 1821 to Include Symphonic Ensemble Performance
A musical celebration in honor of the Hellenic Revolution of the 25th of March 1821 includes a very unique concert on March 26, 2008 at the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall.
(PRWEB) March 19, 2008 -- The Consule General of Greece in Montreal is organizing a very unique concert on March 26, 2008 at the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall. Fifty children from eleven different Montreal and Laval schools will join their voices to celebrate the Hellenic Independence Day of the 25th of March 1821. Accompanied by a symphonic ensemble under the direction of maestro Kerry Roebuck, the children will not only sing wonderful classical songs like the Olympic Anthem of Spiros Samaras but also works of Canadian composers like Howard Shore. Soprano Maria Diamantis and tenor Dimitris Ilias also participate, celebrating this very important date by singing arias and duets.
A significant number of the children in the choir are non-Greek speaking. They joined this group out of sheer love for Hellenic Classical music. They have practiced hard not only to be able to sing in Greek but also to understand the meaning of the lyrics. This was also a first for Maestro Roebuck. The Trinidad-born conductor arranged a great number of Hellenic classical songs, folk songs and traditional Greek dances for the 7-piece symphonic ensemble that consists of two violins, cello, flute, flugelhorn, piano and percussion. Apart from the Greek pieces, the symphonic ensemble will also play Händel's Water music, Mozart's Serenade in C minor and a medley from the Lord of the Rings by Howard Shore.
Your presence in this musical celebration of this very important part of modern Hellenic history would be an honour for us and today's free and democratic Greece.
The concert starts at 7:30pm.T ickets cost $10 and can be purchased through the Admissions network (514-790-1245), Oscar Peterson Concert Hall Box Office (514-848-4848) and Chroma Musika (514-745-8525).
