Roaring Leo Roars With Excitement Following "Best Of Breed" Film Acquisitions
DVD highlights collection of four remarkable gay shorts.
New York (PRWEB) April 2, 2008 -- Roaring Leo Productions, a New York-based film distribution company for filmmakers by filmmakers, is proving that it is "best of breed" with the upcoming release of its new short film compilation, "Best of Breed: Volume 1." The collection of four acquired short films is scheduled for release April 29 on DVD.
"Best of Breed: Volume 1" brings together four distinct and exceptional short films chosen by Griffith, including the 2006 Sundance darling "Encounter;" Ethan Feldbau's transgender odyssey "Plastic;" a journey of male catharsis in "The Process;" and "Wonderfluff Sandwiches," an 8-minute short revolving around a lonely housewife and leather chick both fixated on household products.
Following its initial Amazon.com release on April 29, the anthology of gay-themed short films will be sold in all major retail outlets worldwide. Says Editor-in-Chief Brandon Voss of HX Magazine, "It's gaylicious fun for the artsy queer in all of us."
The company, founded by writer and director and CEO Chuck Griffith, seeks to make a mark on the entertainment industry by specializing in acquiring outstanding films by which it can then implement its successful strategy of "Web 2.0" marketing to brand and distribute to a vast audience of cinema-goers.
Additionally, Roaring Leo Productions will be donating 10-percent of the DVD's net sales to GLAAD's (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Youth Empowerment Fund, of which mission is to lessen the effects of bigotry in schools.
"We started this company because there is a void in how films are being marketed during the 'Youtubification' of our times," says Griffith. "As a filmmaker, I know what it is like to have signed my film away to some company only to never hear from them again."
"I feel that filmmakers know their films best and started Roaring Leo Productions with the intention of keeping them a part of the process in getting their film out to market. Furthermore, the sooner you can brand a film, the better, so we encourage our filmmakers to work with us as early as possible. A stronger brand means higher demand in a global marketplace that is driven more on instant access to content."
He adds, "Sites such as iTunes, Indieflix, and Amazon Unbox, are where the new frontier is and we can utilize resources better than those who are trying to sell shelves of 'Norbit' at Best Buy."
In addition to "Best of Breed: Volume 1," the award-winning independent filmmaker is also gearing up to begin production on his upcoming feature film, "Shifting the Canvas," a post-9/11 New York-themed film that tackles weighty and relevant subjects such as the gentrification of Brooklyn's hipster community, Williamsburg; gay enclaves and surrogate families; and the thematic deconstruction of the delicate balance of art and commerce.
Set to star in "Shifting the Canvas" are Scott Thompson ("Kids in the Hall," "Another Gay Movie"), John Paul Pitoc ("Trick"), and sexy actor of Guest House Films, Matthew Montgomery ("Long-Term Relationship").
The film's producers are aggressively in talks with a variety of distributors for foreign and domestic rights and co-production opportunities. The film is set to start principal photography on June 1, 2008.
Griffith, who has 12 years of marketing, advertising and branding experience working at leading ad agencies including Euro RSCG, DraftFCB and Goodby Silverstein, has also produced hit television shows such as MTV's MADE.
