The National Museum of Dance Presents Resident Photographer Mark Andrew, and the Opening of his Two Exciting Photographic Exhibitions, "STEEL: physique of a dancer," and "Smoke & Mirrors"
Both exhibitions feature the world's most famous dancers from NYC Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Rebecca Kelly Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet Company, and NY Institute of Dance and Education, portraying the true art of dance through two entirely different approaches. The "STEEL" exhibit is a new form of photography that amalgamates the images into steel and glass plate frames, while "Smoke & Mirrors," is a more lighthearted approach, toying with smoke, mirrors, and the dancer. There will be performances by many of the participating dancers at the opening reception on June 6, 2008.
(PRWEB) April 2, 2008 -- The National Museum of Dance presents resident photographer Mark Andrew (www.markandrewimages.com), and the opening of his two exciting photographic exhibits, "STEEL: physique of a dancer," and "Smoke & Mirrors." Both exhibits feature the world's most famous dancers from NYC Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Rebecca Kelly Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet Company, and NY Institute of Dance and Education, portraying the true art of dance through two entirely different approaches. The "STEEL" exhibit is a new form of photography that amalgamates the images into steel and glass plate frames, while "Smoke & Mirrors," is a more lighthearted approach, toying with smoke, mirrors, and the dancer.
"STEEL: physique of dancer," not only features the world's most celebrated dancers, but is an entirely unprecedented form of photography. The images showcase the skill, grace, flexibility, and strength of the body of the dancer and are integrated into raw steel and plate glass frames. The photographs are crisp and tangible; Andrew creates an unlikely pair, rugged steel and the elegant body of the dancer. He creates an innovational final product that showcases the architecture of the human physique. "STEEL: physique of a dancer" features renowned Martha Graham dancer, Lloyd Knight, who collaborated with Andrew on the beginnings of this project.
"Smoke & Mirrors" is a careful articulation of two whimsical elements merged with the warmth, breath, and substance of the human body. Andrew manipulates smoke and mirrors with the bodies of his subjects to show the tension between substance and lack thereof. This exhibit features renowned dancers such as Sean McLeod (NY Instituted of Dance & Education), Desmond Richardson (Complexions Dance Company), Jamie Walker (Paul Taylor), and Jackie Bulnes (Martha Graham Dance Company).
The National Museum of Dance will open Andrew's two new exhibits on June 6th from 6 - 8pm, There will be live dance performances by many of the participating dancers. All are welcome to attend.
