The McGovern-Dole program provides funding to charities like World Vision, Food for the Poor, CARE and the World Food Program so they can carry out school lunch initiatives in Afghanistan, Kenya and other nations. The school meals are essential for improving children's health, class attendance and academic performance.

The Friends of the World Food Program have stated that "funding cuts for the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program have been proposed as part of ongoing negotiations in Congress on this year's Farm Bill." The Friends urge citizens to "Call your Senators and Member of Congress to ask for mandatory funding for the McGovern-Dole Program, as included in the House of Representatives' original version of the Farm Bill."

The public service announcement about McGovern-Dole is available on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdkgcrpvUWc.

Actress Amy Walker (www.amywalker.info) provides the narration for the PSA and asks citizens to call Congress at 1-866-459-FOOD in support of increased funding for the McGovern-Dole program.

A short film titled "Ending Child Hunger: School Lunches for Kids Around the World" is also available on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cp9USNEeKRk.

The film highlights the importance of school feeding programs from post-war Europe through today in building peace in Afghanistan and Darfur, Sudan. The film is based on a book written by author and historian William Lambers titled "The Spirit of the Marshall Plan: Taking Action Against World Hunger: School Lunches for Kids Around the World."
