Religious Freedom Survey Sent to U.S. Presidential Candidates
The Institute on Religion and Public Policy today submitted survey questions on religious freedom to presidential candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain.
Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 3, 2008 -- The Institute on Religion and Public Policy today submitted survey questions on religious freedom to presidential candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain.
Since 9/11, discussions of religious freedom and its role in society have grown increasingly important. The Institute's survey questions aim to gauge each candidate's views on promoting religious freedom in domestic and foreign policy. The Institute sent out similar surveys during the 2000 and 2004 presidential election seasons.
Below are the questions submitted to the presidential candidates:
1. How would you promote religious freedom in your:
a. Foreign policy?
b. Domestic policy?
2. How would your administration work with Congress to develop and implement the Workplace Religious Freedom Act?
3. What specific policies would you implement to promote religious freedom in:
a. Saudi Arabia?
b. China?
c. Burma?
d. Uzbekistan?
"Because religious freedom is grounded in the universal dignity of people, it encourages other fundamental rights," Institute President Joseph K. Grieboski said. "A government that curtails freedom of belief is far more likely to deny other rights central to human dignity. We look forward to hearing what the candidates have to say on such a crucial, if often overlooked, issue."
