Friends Solve Ghostly Mystery of Invisible House in Award-Winning Juvenile Novel

Melissa Strangway's "Derek and Ravine Series" debuts to rave reviews with "56 Water Street," an exciting mystery starring a pair of 10-year-old best friend amateur sleuths.

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) April 7, 2008 -- Curious best friends Derek and Ravine put their heads together to help a troubled ghost solve a century-old mystery in author Melissa Strangway's exciting juvenile mystery, "56 Water Street" (IBSN 9780595424290, iUniverse-Indigo Select, 2007). "56 Water Street" won a 2008 Reader Views Reviewer's Choice award and both Publisher's Choice and Reader's Choice awards from iUniverse.

The house at "56 Water Street" is old and dilapidated, but some mysterious lights flicking on and off inside catch the eyes of 10-year-olds Derek and Ravine. However, when the friends try to tell their parents about it, they're surprised to hear their parents say there is no house at "56 Water Street." Derek and Ravine smell a mystery and they become determined to find out why the house is invisible to everyone except them.

The story takes a spine-tingling turn as the best friends discover that a ghost named Isabel Roberts is haunting the house. She needs to solve the mystery of her younger sister's fate before she can truly rest in peace and she's chosen Derek and Ravine to help her. When Derek and Ravine step onto the yard of the haunted house, they too become invisible to everyone else and are able to explore the house as it was 100 years ago.

The intrigue mounts as the friends dig deeper into the history of "56 Water Street" and the family that used to live there. But, Derek and Ravine are determined to get to the bottom of this mystery, because if they don't help Isabel find out what happened to her sister, she could be stuck as a ghost forever.

Strangway skillfully builds a suspenseful plot and relatable characters that will instantly capture the attention of young readers. Seven-year old Matthew Feliciano reviewed "56 Water Street" and described the book as "Halloween scary," which means it's kid-friendly, scary fun. "56 Water Street" is an exhilarating, suspenseful read with important lessons about friendship, loss and happiness, appropriate for the target 9- to 12-year-old age range.
