WE tv's seventh episode of the critically-acclaimed series High School Confidential ("…remarkably unfrilly and frank…" - Entertainment Weekly; "…a touching series…" - New York Post) premiering Monday, April 21 at 10pm I 9c features Cate, her stepsister Beth and Lauren B. Cate is a competitive athlete who tries to adjust to her father's remarriage after her mother passes away. Her new stepsister Beth is in the same grade and the two begin high school as friends. But blended families are not easy, as both girls come to learn, and a divorce seems probable. The struggles of family drama and teen life take a toll on Cate, who develops an eating disorder and begins to cut herself. When Beth's mom brings Cate's issues to her father Rick, he intervenes to get her the help she needs. By senior year Cate is on the road to recovery, but the relationship between her and Beth has become strained. In contrast, Lauren comes from a very stable family. According to Harris Interactive poll commissioned by WE tv, parents of teen girls are less informed in the happenings of their daughters' lives than they think, and teen girls today are stressed by their body image, parents and future.
Communication - Parent/Teen Disconnect:
- 78% of parents are sure their daughters can talk to them about anything
o In comparison, a much smaller percentage, 54% of teen girls agree they can talk with their parents about anything
- 73% of parents report they know much of what is happening in the lives of their adolescent daughters
o In comparison, only 45% of teenage respondents concur that their parents know a great deal about what is really going on with them
Body Image - Parent/Teen Disconnect:
- 87% of teen girls are stressed by the way their body looks
o However, 52% of parents are not at all concerned that their daughters might develop eating disorders
Stress Factors - The Future, Parents, Academics:
- 71% of teen girls report that the most stress comes from preparing for their future (getting into college and getting a job)
- 87% say they experience stress related to relationships with their parents
- 66% feel the most stress from getting good grades

"We were just kind of more like friends living together. I basically told everybody. They're like, 'How's it like going to school and living with like your stepsister? 'I'm like, 'She's just more my friend.'"

"I'm pretty sure that will be the last time I will see (Cate) for a very long time unless something happens or I just run into her by chance."

Cate, a competitive athlete, tries to adjust to her father's remarriage. Beth is her stepsister and they get along great. The girls go off to high school more as friends than stepsisters. But family drama breaks out in the girls' household and before they know it, their parents head for an ugly divorce. By her senior year Cate has experienced depression, anorexia and even cutting. Beth and Cate's relationship also changes as the two drift and by senior year Beth is pretty sure she won't see Cate again.
In contrast to Cate and Beth, Lauren has a very stable family and focuses on academics and going to an out-of-state college. Politics becomes her passion in high school. Will she get accepted out-of-state or will she be stuck in Kansas?
