Austin-Based Violinist Omar Lopez to Open for Rock Icon Pat Benatar in San Antonio
Omar Lopez, the "guy with the red violin", will open for Pat Benatar at San Antonio's Municipal Auditorium May 18th.
Austin, TX (Billboard Publicity Wire/PRWEB ) April 12, 2008 -- Austin's internationally-renowned violinist Omar Lopez will set a career milestone when he performs on Sunday, May 18th, 2008 as the featured opening act for four-time Grammy winner and 80s rock icon Pat Benatar at San Antonio's Municipal Auditorium. Benatar will be performing in concert with longtime collaborator, producer, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist Neil Giraldo.
The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. with Omar Lopez and his band, who recently launched their Spring 2008 "Sound, Energy, and Passion" Concert Tour at Central Presbyterian Church in Austin. The band will showcase unreleased material from Omar's as-yet-untitled upcoming third album, with Benatar and Giraldo to follow.
This performance is part of the 2008 leg of Benatar and Giraldo's "SUMMERIZED" concert tour, following their recent February appearance on TV's "The Young and the Restless." Tickets will go on sale Saturday, April 5, 2008 via Ticketmaster.
Recognized as one of Austin's Top Ten String Musicians for six consecutive years, Omar has also been featured as the opening act for international Latin music superstar Jose Feliciano and Broadway legend Jennifer Holliday ("Dreamgirls"). His first two self-produced albums - "FOREVER RED" and "EXPERIENCE" - are both available online through ITunes and www.cdbaby.com. Each has garnered critical acclaim in classical crossover, contemporary instrumental and new age music communities around the globe.
