New Author Teaches How to Recession-Proof Your Nonprofit
Recessions can be fatal to nonprofits. But "Ask Without Fear!" author Marc A. Pitman says it doesn't have to. His new book teaches board members and volunteers to overcome their fear of asking for money and make their favorite charities stronger, regardles of the state of the economy
Waterville, ME (PRWEB) April 15, 2008 -- Experts still debate whether it is a recession but fundraising expert Marc A. Pitman's new book Ask Without Fear! teaches regular people how to recession-proof their favorite charity.
Pitman's new book teaches his four steps to successful fundraising: research, engage, ask, and live with the results. Ask Without Fear! goes into detail on each step. Written in plain English, this book is an easy read for even the busiest board member.
Best selling author Brian Tracy says, "This short, practical book gives you a series of step-by-step methods to raise more money, faster and easier than you ever thought possible."
And fundraising expert and author Kay Sprinkel Grace says, "'Get REAL' will take on new meaning for board and staff members who read this book. Readable, on point, filled with memorable stories and well-tested practices, this little book is a great addition to the field of pragmatic advice to those looking for more successful engagement in fundraising."
Pitman says, "Even clouds of recession have silver linings. Now is a great time to invest in proven fundraising principles and engage volunteers to be even more skillful fundraisers." He wrote this book especially to help regular (ie. non-professional fundraising) people overcome their fear of asking for money. "The number 1 reason people don't give is that they're not asked. We need to get out there and ask!"
He is not advocating being brash or arrogant. Fundraisers do need to understand that in a recession many of their donors may not be able to give at the same level. This is where they can be compassionate and understanding. And their relaxed understanding of people's financial realities can make them even stronger proponents of their organizations in the future.
But, Pitman stresses, there is nothing compassionate about not asking.
Whether the economy is in a recession or not, a sure way to raise less money is to stop asking for it. "Keep on making wise investments in fundraising efforts, stay upbeat, and continue to compassionately raise support, " says Pitman, "and you'll protect your nonprofit in times of recession while helping your donors become evangelists for your cause."
For specific information on how to strengthen relationships with donors and overcome the fear of asking, Pitman's book Ask Without Fear! is available at http://askwithoutfear.com and will be available on Amazon in the coming weeks.
