The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) has selected Admiral Thad W. Allen, 23rd Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, as the recipient of the 2008 Dwight D. Eisenhower Award. The award will be presented at NDIA's Annual Dinner, Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner, Va.

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) April 16, 2008 -- The National Defense Industrial Association has selected Admiral Thad W.

This will be the first time a representative of the United States Coast Guard will be presented the prestigious NDIA Eisenhower Award since its inception in 1979. Previous awardees include: Ambassador Jeanne J. Kirkpatrick, General Richard B. Myers, USAF, General Colin L. Powell, USA, and The Honorable Caspar W. Weinberger.

In his thirty eight years of service, Admiral Allen has held operational command both at sea and ashore, conducting missions to support the maritime safety, security and environmental stewardship interests of the Nation.

Admiral Allen is known for his reasoned leadership in times of crises and his tremendous ability to effect constructive change in an ever changing world. Nowhere is this more evident than in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, when he demonstrated superlative leadership as the Principal Federal Official for response and recovery operations, while also acting as the Coast Guard Chief of Staff. Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, he was responsible for leading Coast Guard forces as Commander of the Atlantic Area and U.S. Maritime Defense Zone Atlantic.
