Stop Staring! Nominated for "Favorite Underground Fashion" by the American Latino Awards

The American Latino Awards is known for recognizing the talents and accomplishments of American Latinos. The American Latino Awards has nominated Stop Staring! for "Favorite Underground Fashion" in 2008. Stop Staring! is known for its sexy retro chic dresses, inspired by the glamour and classic eras of the 1940's, and 1950's.

Alicia Estrada, Designer and Founder, started her own retro clothing company, 10 years ago when she realized that there was a huge lack of vintage dresses that actually fit plus size girls. Alicia, being a size 14 herself, not only noticed that most vintage was only available in smaller sizes, but also noticed that most vintage clothing was tattered and torn.

My father always showed us, by his example, to never give up. I recall my father's childhood of how he began picking cotton at an early age. Anything I would endure today, was nothing compared to my Dads hardships. He taught us to have a strong faith in God, it was this faith that ultimately made my dreams a reality

Alicia who began sewing at age 17, decided to take matters into her own hands, literally, and began making her own vintage inspired clothing. By the time Alicia was in college, she was not only sewing her own rockabilly dresses, but she was also making her own patterns. Alicia Estrada was born into a Mexican American family alongside her six sisters and three brothers. It was Alicia's dad, a migrant farm worker, who instilled good morals, and good work ethics, which later proved key in running a small business. The ALA is the only English language award show with an American Latino theme, where the viewers ultimately decide who is their favorite American Latino in a variety of categories. The ALA has not only recognized Alicia's creative talents as a Clothing Designer, but also as a Latina business woman. Voting will take place beginning April 1 to June 22, 2008.
