Political Coup Erupts in Maraguay in Stunning New Political Thriller
The Reluctant Colonel by Michael J. Merry explores the anatomy of a Latin American coup.
Miami Shores, FL (PRWEB) April 24, 2008 -- Michael J. Merry's The Reluctant Colonel is a whip-smart political thriller about a takeover in a Latin American country.
In the 1950s, a group of officers, cadets and civilians plot a dangerous coup in a small country south of Panama. But can they cut off communications so that the United States doesn't know what they are doing? That's the premise of Michael J. Merry's high-octane thriller, The Reluctant Colonel.
Merry's own personal experiences give this smart and savvy novel an unforgettable authenticity. Merry was living in Panama when the 1968 revolution took place and he saw first hand how easy it was for a military force to take over. Even more incredible, Merry was the son-in-law of the president's chief of staff, and was privy to information about the coup.
Beautifully written and full of plot twists and turns, The Reluctant Colonel also pokes fun at politicians and shows how a small country is able to get assistance from the United States without having to accept its foreign policy. Filled with larger-than-life characters, including Castro and Lyndon Johnson, The Reluctant Colonel is a terrific read for history buffs or anyone who enjoys suspense.
