Adva Optical Networking Launches Market's First Wholesale Ethernet Demarcation Device

ADVA FSP 150CM adds Etherjack intelligence to wholesale and mass market Ethernet services.

Norcross, GA and Martinsried/Munich, Germany (Vocus/PRWEB ) April 29, 2008 -- ADVA Optical Networking today announced the launch of the FSP 150CM, the latest member of its market-leading FSP 150 family of intelligent Ethernet transport products. The FSP 150CM is the world's first carrier-class modular Ethernet Network-to-Network Interface (NNI) demarcation device, offering carriers a simplified solution for bulk termination of Ethernet services or inter-carrier handoffs required for wholesale service applications. The Ethernet NNI is a critical element in the evolution of Ethernet services and is required at boundaries between different maintenance regions or different carriers. It performs an analogous function to ADVA Optical Networking's industry-leading Etherjack® demarcation devices that are now vital for providing the Ethernet service handoff at customer premises.

The FSP 150CM is the only modular Ethernet NNI demarcation device on the market, offering carriers a standards-based approach for wholesale Ethernet and bulk retail services.
The FSP 150CM addresses the continued growth in the global Ethernet transport market, where intelligent Ethernet services are being deployed across a range of infrastructures and protocols at previously unprecedented levels. The FSP 150CM's unique design enables carriers to meet this growth, while at the same time drive down capital and operational costs. The FSP 150CM simplifies provisioning across multiple network platforms, including Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), Provide Backbone Bridging-Traffic Engineering (PBB-TE) and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). The device can also be configured to a high level of transparency to satisfy the needs of Ethernet local loop providers that are required by their customer base to deliver transparency.

"ADVA Optical Networking is a pioneer in the Carrier Ethernet Access Platform (CEAP) space and the FSP 150CM represents the company's understanding of their customers' needs," commented Stan Hubbard, senior analyst at Heavy Reading. "Operators frequently say that effective interconnection of carrier Ethernet networks is one of the last great hurdles to providing ubiquitous Ethernet service coverage and unleashing long-term growth of the market. They are looking for standards-compliant solutions that will help them extend their service reach beyond their own networks in an intelligent and cost-effective manner."

ADVA Optical Networking's FSP 150CM enables the evolution of Ethernet from a service into a transport infrastructure capable of replacing traditional transport technologies such as SONET or TDM. Optimized for headend locations where carriers need to handle multiple Ethernet local loops, the FSP 150CM is the ideal solution to consolidate and aggregate Ethernet access traffic. The unique low-touch provisioning design of the FSP 150CM simplifies network operation and enables carriers to scale Ethernet services to a mass-market proposition. The product interworks seamlessly with the ADVA FSP 150CC family of compact demarcation devices that enable ubiquitous Ethernet services across any medium, including fiber, copper and TDM leased lines.

"The Ethernet transport market is growing rapidly. Carriers need to be able to respond to this demand in the most scalable and efficient manner possible," stated Fred Ellefson, vice president of global marketing at ADVA Optical Networking. "The FSP 150CM is the only modular Ethernet NNI demarcation device on the market, offering carriers a standards-based approach for wholesale Ethernet and bulk retail services."
