Search For Hitler Brings Hits To Whitler

American folk singer and songwriter Larry Whitler, and his children's duo Robin And The Giant, are experiencing a huge number of downloads of their music from the internet due to a similarity in his name to the name of Hitler.

Ocala, FL (PRWEB) May 3, 2008 -- Singer and Songwriter Larry Whitler has had an avalanche of hits to his music on I-Tunes due to a couple of strange coincidences that involve internet searches that include the name of the infamous German dictator, Adolf Hitler. Whitler says he first noticed the unusually large number of hits in March and was able to track down the visitors through a link that was posted on a German blog site. ( http://www.bildblog.de/2839/das-ist-ja-n-dicker-schund )

The site is in the German language and appears to be reporting on an arbitrarily created string of letters generated by computer as a commonly used spam-checking technique. Those letters spell out Whitler's last name. German's are sensitive to the Nazi leader's name and so the appearance of the name, even with the added "w", has caused a furor over the Fuehrer and, thus, the hits to Whitler's site, mostly from curious Germans.

Larry Whitler is an American folk singer and is also half of the children's duo Robin And The Giant, which was created with his partner Robin MacBlane. Whitler says that the similarity in the two names has happened once before when someone was posting derogatory comments about President George W. Bush on the internet and referring to him as "George W. Hitler." That blog posting brought tens of thousands of hits and downloads to the Robin And The Giant I-Tunes page.

While Whitler welcomes the new fans that the coincidence is bringing to him and to Robin And The Giant, he is quick to point out that his father, Alfred Whitler, fought in the U.S. Army during World War II and even drove a tank in the Battle Of The Bulge eventually defeating Hitler. It is for this reason that Whitler says he decided long ago, when first entering show business, that he would wear his birth name proudly and not change it.
