Academy of Art University Awards Scholarships to Richmond Youth

Academy of Art University awarded ten art scholarships to Richmond high school juniors for the Pankow Builders Ltd./Richmond Civic Center (RCC) Public Art Scholarship Program.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 7, 2008 -- Academy of Art University awarded ten art scholarships to Richmond high school juniors for the Pankow Builders Ltd./Richmond Civic Center (RCC) Public Art Scholarship Program. The City of Richmond YouthWORKS program, West Contra Costa Career Academies and Richmond Community Redevelopment Agency also collaborated on this effort to provide art career opportunities to Richmond residents graduating in the class of 2009.

The scholarships are to the Academy's Pre-Summer College Art Experience. One lucky student will be picked for a four-year tuition-paid scholarship for a BFA degree program. Nine students were picked from Kennedy High School and one was chosen from Hercules High School.

Over a one-year period, the students will also participate in a parallel program that allows them to visit the studios of well-established local artists. These artists have been commissioned to design, fabricate and install artworks for the Civic Center Plaza Renovation project in the city of Richmond.

The Academy of Art University's scholarship program, founded over forty years ago, has helped more than 45,000 aspiring artists and designers pursue their educational goals in art and design. The Academy offers a number of innovative and inexpensive ways for first-time Academy students, high school students, and teachers to improve their skills and experience at all that the top art school has to offer. In addition to providing grants to students at San Francisco Public Schools, the Academy has given scholarships to sons and daughters of San Francisco Fire Department and San Francisco Police Department officers.

The Bay Area is the foundation of Academy of Art University - its natural beauty and cultural diversity serves as constant artistic inspiration. As a way of expressing its gratitude toward the Bay Area, the Academy is dedicated to preserving its environment, enriching the community and reaching out to those in need.
