Make Room for Babies; Expert Shares Tips for Expectant Parents of Multiples

Tonia Tomlin, author of forthcoming Chaos 2 Calm: The Moms-of-Multiples' Guide to an Organized Family Explains Eleven Essentials for Parents Expecting Multiples.

Plano, TX (PRWEB) May 9, 2008 -- Tonia Tomlin, a professional organizer by trade and proud mother of identical twins Peyton and Sidney, remembers vividly the day she heard those words that changed her life forever: Congratulations! It's twins. After the initial shock, awe, fear, exhilaration, and excitement, came the double visions -- two of everything--cradles, car seats, cribs, highchairs, tricycles, college tuitions. Tomlin, like an increasing number of expectant parents, found herself thrust into what she calls "life in the fast lane parenting."

According to Tomlin, "For parents of multiples, there is no rest for the weary. Feeling overwhelmed, sleep-deprived, disorganized, and scared is only normal. Through my relationships with other parents of multiples, I have witnessed how a lack of organization can wreak havoc on every aspect of their lives - from their daily routines to their relationships."

Sensing a need to help parents like her who didn't have the benefit of a background as a professional organizer, Tomlin created a forthcoming book, Chaos 2 Calm: The Moms-of-Multiples' Guide to an Organized Family. Chaos 2 Calm (Sorted Out Publishing, ISBN: 978-0-9801548-0-1, $17.95) will be available in September.

In anticipation of the arrival of Chaos 2 Calm, Tomlin is offering her expert insights for parents anticipating the arrival of multiples. Tomlin suggests the following:

Do investigate/interview daycares just shortly after you find out you are pregnant with the twins. This can be very timely and may require weeks of planning of appointments.

Don't wait to relocate the babies' room. Start as soon as you find out you are pregnant

Do ask an experienced twin mother to shop with you for your baby registry. She will be able to give you helpful information that singleton mothers may not be able to give.

Don't lose your gift receipts for items purchased on your registry. You may receive duplicate gifts that you can exchange for other items you will need.

Do lots of napping. You'll never nap again!
Don't overbuy for babies -- especially during the early months. In the first three months, most babies wear their diaper and onesies. Save your money for college!

Do wrap up any major household projects. Time will be limited in preparation for the babies.

Don't wait to baby proof your home. Before you know it your babies will be getting into everything.

Do add shelving in your babies' closets. You will need lots of space for 2, 3 or 4 babies. Hats, socks, blankets, extra diapers, wipes take up lots of room.

Don't purchase too many preemie diapers. Your little preemie miracles grow faster than you think.

Do get in the habit of going on date nights with your spouse now!

Tonia Tomlin is one of the country's preeminent organization experts. A sought-after media guest, Tomlin has been featured in numerous local, regional, and national media print and broadcast media outlets, including HGTV's "Mission Organization" program. Tomlin lives in Plano, Texas, with her husband, Rob, and their identical twin girls, Peyton and Sydney. Chaos 2 Calm: The Moms-of-Multiples' Guide to an Organized Family will be available where better books are sold on September 1, 2008.
