Alt-weekly Cartoonist Jen Sorensen Releases New Book, "One Nation, Oh My God" Features 150 Provocative Comic Strips

Sorensen on book tour and will be featured on upcoming Dr. Blogstein's Happy Hour

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 9, 2008 -- Jen Sorensen, creator of the award-winning comic "Slowpoke" which appears in the Village Voice and other newsweeklies around the country, has released a new collection of her cartoons entitled "Slowpoke: One Nation, Oh My God!"

Jen is not only breaking the political punditry gender barrier, she's taking names. And drawing viciously funny comics. "Sly, quick and smart, Jen Sorensen's comic strip is nothing like its name. So don't be deceived--Slowpoke is going places," said Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau.

Sorensen kicked off her tour on the West Coast with cartoon slideshows in Berkeley, Portland, and Seattle, and has East Coast dates in New York City and Philadelphia.

Jen will also be a featured interviewee on the leading humor cast "Dr. Blogstein's 'Happy Hour'" on May 13th at 8pm EDT at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/DrBlogstein/2008/05/14/American-Women-Are-Crazy.

She will appear alongside "Tom the Dancing Bug" creator Ruben Bolling in New York on May 14 in New York City at The Tank at 8pm.

"One Nation, Oh My God!" features 150 of Sorensen's provocative strips, trenchant commentary, and an introduction by "Tom the Dancing Bug" creator Ruben Bolling.

"This is not just another quirky cartoon book," says Sorensen. "It's packed with background on every strip, and chock full of the devastatingly sophisticated and accurate political analysis you crave."

Deploying the trademark Slowpoke brand of absurdist humor, "One Nation, Oh My God!" covers everything from the Antique Ideology Roadshow to the rise of virtual donuts. It also answers all your questions about tube socks and teledildonics.

Sorensen adds, "Read this book and you'll wonder what a complete tool like Bill Kristol is doing on the New York Times op-ed pages instead of, well, me."

Jen's comics and blog can be found online at http://www.slowpokecomics.com.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:

  • "Jen Sorensen is a maniacal genius, gleefully exposing the mendacity which lurks behind conventional wisdom, glib newscasters, celebrity culture, Republican doublespeak, and other ills of our age. I can't recommend her work highly enough." -- Tom Tomorrow, creator of This Modern World.
  • "In a world that seems to get murkier by the minute, Slowpoke is a freakin' beacon of lucidity." -- Alison Bechdel, author of Fun Home.
  • "Boot-stompingly funny and progressively pointed. It skewers the bastards!" -- Jim Hightower, best-selling author and radio commentator.
