Transit Computing Releases Route Coordinator Paratransit Software

Route Coordinator, new desktop paratransit software using breakthrough technology for routing and trip coordination, helps even the smallest community economically provide rides for the elderly and disabled.
Route Coordinator can save any small or medium-sized paratransit office time, manpower and money.

Cedar Park, TX (PRWEB) May 20, 2008 -- Transit Computing, Inc. announces the launch of Route Coordinator, new software that utilizes breakthrough technology for paratransit routing and trip coordination. Route Coordinator makes it easier for communities of all sizes to schedule and manage transportation and riders.

"With an aging population, the need for paratransit services is going to grow. Route Coordinator will allow transits offices to better manage and maintain trips for the elderly and disabled," says Bill Fawcett, director of marketing at Transit Computing. "Route Coordinator can save any small or medium-sized paratransit office time, manpower and money."

Paratransit is an alternative mode of flexible passenger transportation that does not follow fixed routes or schedules. Where it often takes half a day to schedule and manage a few dozen riders using traditional methods like Post-it notes and spreadsheets, Route Coordinator makes scheduling, recording, reimbursement scheduling and report filing easier to manage, and in less time.

Volunteer autos, vans and mini-buses are typically used to provide paratransit service. Since the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), real strides have been made to make transportation available to those who need assistance. Large cities with sophisticated bus systems and multi-million dollar budgets have long been able to provide mobility to citizens who otherwise would be unable to get around. Many suburbs and rural areas have also worked hard to provide assisted rides, but the challenge of managing a large number of riders, volunteer drivers and buses has limited what assistance could be offered. While larger cities can afford expensive and sophisticated software, most communities have neither the budget nor need for complicated, hardware-intensive programs.

Before adopting Route Coordinator, a small rural community County Dept of Aging (WI) provided 30 or 40 trips a day in a few vans. It took all day to manage this load. Now, by using Route Coordinator, they comfortably support twice as many trips per day in five or six vans in less time, growing both the client and rider base.

Because Transit Computing intends to help all paratransit offices to do a better job more easily, its Route Coordinator software is available at a cost even the smallest paratransit provider can afford. There is even a massively discounted price for very small locations.
