Avaya Selects Converge for IT Asset Disposition

Major contract signals growing strategic importance of IT asset disposition. Security concerns and environmental mandates spur corporations to strengthen procedures for phased out computer gear.
Corporations invest heavily in fortifying networks and preventing frontal attacks

Peabody, MA (PRWEB) May 20, 2008 -- Converge announced today that it has been selected by Avaya, a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, to provide IT asset disposition (ITAD) services for its corporate desktops, laptops and servers in the United States.

The agreement calls for Converge to provide a comprehensive suite of ITAD services for the secure and environmentally compliant disposition of Avaya's retired computer equipment. ITAD services run the gamut from U.S. DoD 5220.22-M data erasure to the remarketing of viable systems and components to the safe and proper recycling of all plastics, metals and other base materials.

"Avaya is committed to the proper disposal of our IT assets," says Larry Salvatore, director, IT Vendor Management at Avaya. "Converge impressed us with their ability to effectively manage these materials while maintaining chain-of-custody reporting, which is critical for our governance policies. We look forward to a successful partnership."

Data security, industry compliance and "green" mandates are fueling increased focus on ITAD services among technology-driven corporations. Across the global economy millions of computing devices -- from cell phones to servers -- are being replaced every year, boosting the risk of exposing sensitive company or customer information.

"Corporations invest heavily in fortifying networks and preventing frontal attacks," says Chris Adam, director of ITAD services for Converge. "But who's watching the back door? Pulling devices off the network and storing them in unsecured areas or sending them out for disposal without proper controls is a security nightmare waiting to happen. Companies such as Avaya are setting a new standard for securing the 'after ownership' piece of the technology life cycle."
