Author Predicted Corporate Cloud Flogos in 2000 Novel, 'Sponsored By'

Author Devin Hansen's nightmarish vision of the future quickly becoming true as corporate logos begin appearing on foreheads and weather forecasts, in the form of Flogos and tattoos.

Rock Island, IL (PRWEB) May 21, 2008 -- Look to the sky to see which troubling sight Devin Hansen's novel Sponsored By... has most recently predicted--an all too identifiable flying object: the "Flogo." The idea, first presented in Hansen's debut Novel, Sponsored By... has since come true, seven years after the novel was published. In fact, a May 7 Associated Press piece announced that the Walt Disney Co. plans to "send clouds shaped like Mickey Mouse heads into the air." Disney's "Flogos" could potentially obscure the sky with thousands of logos in a 30-mile radius surrounding Orlando, Fla. Such a sight would be startlingly similar to a passage in Hansen's first novel:

"Tevis often tried to imagine a virgin horizon, but the clouds hanging over the hills kept her in reality, floating ominously with their undeniable logos."

Tevis often tried to imagine a virgin horizon, but the clouds hanging over the hills kept her in reality, floating ominously with their undeniable logos.
This is not the first questionable advertising trend foretold by Hansen's novel since hitting the shelves seven years ago. The drama of Sponsored By... unfolds as an impoverished couple seeks corporate sponsorship for their child in exchange for placing a tattooed "dermmicial" on the baby's forehead. Not long after the release of the book, National Post (Canada) reported that an Iowa radio station agreed to pay two men $150,000 each for tattooing its call numbers on their foreheads. Four years later, GoldenPalace.com paid a mother $10,000 for the ad-space on her forehead - money that would be contributed to her son's education.

Which scenario from Hansen's fiction will we see become reality next? Filtered news coming through the Microsoft Herald? Skyscrapers shaped like Levi's blue jeans? Billboards buoyed in the river in the heart of the Amoco Wildlife Park? The next revolution in commercialization may come as no surprise to readers of Hansen's Sponsored By...
