Intrepid Foundation Raises Funds for Chinese Earthquake Appeal

Intrepid Travel and The Intrepid Foundation will be supporting the Australian Red Cross China Sichuan Earthquake Appeal in the wake of the devastation witnessed in the Sichuan region of China.

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) May 21, 2008 -- Intrepid Travel and The Intrepid Foundation will be supporting the Australian Red Cross China Sichuan Earthquake Appeal in the wake of the devastation witnessed in the Sichuan region of China.

Intrepid Travel will match all donations received dollar for dollar (for the first $19,000 received). Funds received will go to the Red Cross to:
- support the relief and recovery needs of individuals and communities affected by the earthquake, including urgent needs of shelter through the provision of tents and quilts, clean water, food parcels, medical supplies and hygiene kits
- send specialist aid workers to assist in the Red Cross response if required
- assist Red Cross in China in preparing and responding to this and future emergencies.

Red Cross is well established in China, with more than 20 million volunteers working around the country. This network is well placed to mobilize communities to address preparedness and safety measures, assist in rapid assessment of damage after disasters strike, organize initial first aid and rescue efforts, and assist in relief distribution.

Australian Red Cross has been responding to humanitarian situations in China, like floods and earthquakes, since the 1970s and has run development programs there since the early 1990s. They currently run HIV and disaster preparedness programs in four provinces.

Funds collected via Intrepid Travel on the ground in China will go directly to the Red Cross base in Sichuan. Funds collected via The Intrepid Foundation in Australia will go to the Australian Red Cross China Sichuan Earthquake Appeal. All public donations received will be matched dollar for dollar (for the first $19,000 received) by Intrepid Travel. To donate please visit the Intrepid Foundation website: www.theintrepidfoundation.org/
