Members of T.H.E. BRAIN TRUST Online Community Send Their Support to Senator Kennedy as He and His Family Seek to Understand the Senator's Malignant Brain Tumor Diagnosis

THE BRAIN TRUST (www.braintrust.org) uses the power of the Internet to create a "healing exchange" of information and support among people whose lives are affected by brain tumors, subsequent brain injuries and related conditions. Senator Kennedy has been a strong and consistent supporter of the brain tumor community for many years.

Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) May 22, 2008 -- Members of The Healing Exchange (T.H.E.) BRAIN TRUST online community send their support to Senator Kennedy, his family, his staff and supporters as his family seeks to understand the Senator's malignant brain tumor diagnosis.

The BRAIN TRUST's representatives recently returned from Capitol Hill from the National Brain Tumor Vigil held in upper Senate State park during Brain Tumor Action Week May 4-10, and were stunned to learn of the Senator's devastating illness.

THE BRAIN TRUST (www.braintrust.org) uses the power of the Internet to create a "healing exchange" of information and support among people whose lives are affected by brain tumors subsequent brain injuries and related conditions. Senator Kennedy has been a strong and consistent supporter of the brain tumor community.

T.H.E. BRAIN TRUST serves more than 2700 patients, families and medical professionals and researchers daily. Primary services are delivered via Email support groups. The original "Brain Tumor Mailing List," known as BRAINTMR, was created in 1993 by Samantha Scolamiero. It was the first brain tumor discussion group on the Internet and remains a premier resource for the brain tumor community.

The group has grown to provide over 15 online groups serving people with a variety of brain tumor types and distributes over nearly a half million messages weekly. Online groups are beneficial because they are available 24 hours a day, transcend geographical boundaries, don't take place in a hospital setting, and empower consumers to obtain better care.

In addition to online services The Healing Exchange BRAIN TRUST organizes face events for people to come together and support each in person, such as the National Brain Tumor Vigil held May 5 on Capitol Hill, which was replicated in 30 locations around the world (http://www.braintrust.org/vigil/localvigil.html);

One supporter said:
"I want to express my deep appreciation for everyone who participates in this community. I have been reading the contributions for a few months, and have learned quite a bit about virtually every aspect of this disease. I am very grateful for that, but even more significant is the succor I have experience in what otherwise is an extremely isolating experience. My wife was diagnosed with a GBM (glioblastoma multiforme/ anaplastic astrocytoma grade IV) in June of last year and through T.H.E. BRAIN TRUST community I have been able to understand what we have been through and what we can expect and that is of enormous value, because there is no other source, not doctors, relatives, or friends that can communicate the complexities that have to be negotiated during this experience. Thanks for demonstrating the courage, compassion, intelligence and generosity that I have found so helpful."
