Hyatt Regency Washington DC Hotel Receives Green Seal Re-Certification

Eco-Friendly Downtown Washington DC Hotel is One of Two Recipients in the Capital

Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 22, 2008 -- Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill proudly announces certification as a Green Seal-approved hotel. The renewed determination solidifies its status as one of only two Washington DC hotels with Green Seal Certification. In March 2002, Hyatt Regency Washington underwent an extensive evaluation by Green Seal, Inc., to determine that its eco-conscious Washington DC hotel accommodations and facilities comply with the environmental and performance requirements of the Green Seal Environmental Standard for Lodging Properties, and was then recognized as Green Seal Certified. This distinguished downtown Washington DC hotel has continued to maintain certification for more than six years.

Green Seal-Certified Washington DC Hotel Rooms and Public Spaces Demonstrate Conservation of Energy

Recycling and conservation efforts inside this eco-friendly downtown Washington DC hotel have produced significant results for over 15 years. Initiatives such as energy and water conservation, recycling programs and environmental practices are the core programs for which Hyatt Regency Washington earned Green Seal Certification.

"Nearly 90% of the lights on our property are energy-efficient. This initiative - coupled with the above practices - have helped the hotel reduce annual energy use per guest by 19% in 2007, versus the previous four-year average," said Tim Hotter, director of engineering at Hyatt Regency Washington. "We have been able to reduce our annual water consumption per guest by 6% in 2007 versus the previous four-year average, due in part to the use of water saving showerheads, toilets, and faucet aerators - in addition to our guest-linen re-use program, and employee awareness in reporting any water waste and / or leaks. This is only a small sample of what we have done to achieve this certification."

Mark Petruzzi - vice president of certification for Green Seal - stated, "This property meets the Green Seal Environmental Standard for U.S. Lodging Properties for waste minimization, water and energy efficiency, hazardous substances handling, and environmentally responsible purchasing." Based in Washington DC, Green Seal, Inc., is dedicated to protecting the environment by promoting the manufacture and use of environmentally responsible products and services.
