Comedian Martin Short to Appear at CompTIA Breakaway 2008 Gala Awards Dinner
Annual member conference set for Aug. 5-7 in Orlando., Fla.
Oakbrook Terrace, IL (Vocus/PRWEB ) June 23, 2008 -- The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), the leading trade association for the world’s information technology industry (IT) industry, announced today that Emmy and Tony Award-winning comedian Martin Short will be the featured entertainer at the 2008 Breakaway Gala Awards Dinner.
Breakaway 2008, the IT industry’s premier partnering and educational event, is scheduled for Aug. 5-7 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
Born in Ontario, Canada, Short began his career on Canada’s “SCTV Comedy Network,” where he won an Emmy Award for his work. Short’s comedic talents brought him to the attention of “Saturday Night Live.” He quickly rose to fame for his standout performances and dead-on impressions of characters such as Ed Grimley, Jackie Rogers Jr., legendary songwriter Irving Cohen, and lawyer Nathan Thurm. The exposure he received for his work on SNL landed him on the fast track to Hollywood and right into feature film roles.
Short made his silver screen debut in “Three Amigos” where he co-starred with SNL alums Chevy Chase and Steve Martin. Over the years he has appeared in “Inner Space”, “Mars Attacks”, “Jungle To Jungle”, and the “Big Picture”, among others. His most memorable role, perhaps, was that of Franck the wedding planner in “Father of the Bride.”
Short has written, produced and starred in several highly acclaimed TV comedy specials which won him two Cable Ace awards and an Emmy. His stage work includes the 1993 production of “The Goodbye Girl”; his Tony-award winning performance in “Little Me”; “The Producers” in 2001; and, most recently, “Fame Becomes Me”.
