and Westlake Entertainment’s launch of 'DIAMETER OF THE BOMB' allows the Western world a moving and intimate look at a tragedy so far from our very own doorsteps of freedom.
The Canadian documentary, which was made jointly between the National Film Board and the BBC, combines forensic footage released for the first time by the Israeli army, Hamas military video, the bomber's home movie footage, and stunning cinematography in High Definition across Israel and the Palestinian territories. ''DIAMETER OF THE BOMB'' will go on sale January 8, 2008 throughout the United States for a suggested retail price of $24.98.

“We are proud to bring to light the unimaginable pain and anguish felt by the families of those killed in the suicide bombing of an Israeli bus,” said Larry Cohen, Principal of Westlake Entertainment. “Filmmakers Steven Silver and Andrew Quigley have managed to take a volatile subject in a highly sensitive region that is dominated by politics and tell the tragic story without political bias,” said Cohen. ''DIAMETER OF THE BOMB'' is part-thriller as it follows Israeli police, secret service and military as they try unsuccessfully to prevent the attack and mercilessly track down the terrorist cell behind it. It is also part mystery, as friends and relatives struggle to piece back together fragments of their own lives and of loved ones killed in the blast.

''DIAMETER OF THE BOMB,'' taken from the opening line of Yehuda Amichai's poem of the same name, chronicles the final tragic hours that lead up to the fatal events of five central characters. These characters include a schoolgirl who had come to Israel from war-torn Ethiopia, the young wife of a gravestone carver, the only son of an elderly Arab-Israeli worker, a young dancer identified only by her swimsuit, and the suicide bomber himself. With unprecedented access, the filmmakers took their cameras inside Israeli prisons, commando units, Palestinian refugee camps and hospital trauma wards, capturing countless everyday situations across Israel and Palestine and following the diameter of the bomb and its awful trajectory of human suffering.

“Since the start of the uprising, more than four thousand Israelis and Palestinians are reported to have lost their lives,” said Cohen, “and Westlake Entertainment’s launch of 'DIAMETER OF THE BOMB' allows the Western world a moving and intimate look at a tragedy so far from our very own doorsteps of freedom.” Cohen, a 25 year entertainment industry veteran, concluded with “the heart-felt accounts of the families of these innocent victims of terror represent every victim, everywhere on our planet.”

''DIAMETER OF THE BOMB'' won the Special Jury award at the Boulder International Film Festival, as well as honored with Official Selection by the Toronto Film Festival and The San Francisco DocFest. It was produced by Georgina Townsley and Paul Goldin of Rainmaker Films (UK) and Claude Bonin of the National Film Board of Canada. ''DIAMETER OF THE BOMB'' was financed by the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund, The National Film Board of Canada and BBC Storyville.
