Web 2.0 Search Solutions for the Heritage Industry -- Eloquent Systems Improves Global Access to Systems for Museums, Archives and Heritage Societies using Google Mash-ups

Eloquent Systems has launched two new modules which improve research and information access for the heritage industry. Leveraging the popular Google Maps and Google Earth products, as well as the power of leading search engines such as MSN, Google and Yahoo, Eloquent’s latest modules provide new Web-based search dynamics for museums, archives and specialized libraries across the world.

Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) July 25, 2006 – Eloquent Systems has launched two new modules which improve research and information access within the heritage industry. Leveraging the popular Google™ Maps and Google™ Earth products, as well as the power of leading search engines such as MSN, Google and Yahoo, Eloquent’s latest modules provide new Web-based search dynamics for museums, archives and specialized libraries across the world.

VisualSearch™ is a new geospatial search interface that allows researchers, historians and archivists to navigate and interpret search results within a geographical context. The VisualSearch interface is a mash-up that combines geospatial tools such as Google Maps and Google Earth with the rich information described in collections hosted by Eloquent’s clients.

Our new VisualSearch interface is a very powerful tool for researching and interpreting heritage
“Our new VisualSearch interface is a very powerful tool for researching and interpreting heritage,” said Merv Richter, President of Eloquent Systems. “By tying records and artifacts, including rich multimedia objects, to the locations that make them significant, our clients can provide users with a dramatically enhanced experience for understanding and appreciating history.”

The VisualSearch module was developed with extensive assistance from the University of Tennessee and Humanities Tennessee, a not-for-profit organization focused on studies of community history and cultural life in the State of Tennessee.

The second new module, SpiderSearch™, is an HTML publishing agent that enables content within the heritage databases belonging to Eloquent’s customers to be indexed and searched by common search engines such as MSN, Google and Yahoo. Once indexed, the rich multimedia content can be readily accessed by anyone using an Internet browser.

“At Eloquent Systems, we design our products to make it easy for our clients to capture and describe their data and for their end-users to search and access that information,” said Richter. “Our core WebGENCAT system is highly regarded in the industry for its power and flexibility, and our flexible hosting options ensure that our clients can choose the paths that best fit their IT environments and budget constraints.”

Both modules are designed to complement Eloquent’s core WebGENCAT solution, which has been designed to support traditional archival and collection descriptions as well as new multimedia content that includes oral histories, scanned photographs, PDF documents and links to external content. The new components enhance Eloquent’s existing PublicSearch™ module, a traditional proprietary search interface that allows public browsers to perform detailed searches. Users accessing content through the new modules can link back into the source database to view the complete details.

Eloquent Systems will be demonstrating its new solutions at the upcoming DC 2006 Joint Annual Meeting of the Society of American Archivists (SAA), the National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators (NAGARA) and the Council of State Archivists (CoSA), which will be held August 2–4, 2006, in Washington, DC.
