Budding Journalists Wanted for World Nomads Podcast Documentary Scholarship

World Nomads, the online travel services provider, has announced a Podcast Documentary Scholarship - the next in the series of World Nomads Travel Scholarships - and is calling for applications.
While our core business is travel insurance, as a company, World Nomads aims to go beyond this, to provide a range of services such as on-line journals, podcasts, language guides - and the scholarship series - to inspire travellers to explore remote parts of the world, and to engage with local communities and support organisations such as Fred Hollows.

(PRWEB) November 29, 2007 -- Under the mentorship of ABC journalist, executive producer and author, Tim Latham, the recipient of the scholarship will produce a scripted and edited podcast documentary which will be streamed on World Nomads and partner websites and will be offered up for potential broadcast on a number of international radio programs.

World Nomads will fly the scholarship winner to Cambodia, to The Fred Hollows Foundation eye camp in the remote Baray District of Kampong Thom Province. The company will provide a mobile digital audio recorder to enable the scholarship recipient to produce a story about the work of The Fred Hollows Foundation, whose world-renowned eye clinics help to restore sight in third-world communities.

The scholarship recipient will have special access to the medical team and local villagers who have worked together since 2000 to provide care to remote communities and rebuild medical facilities destroyed by the Pol Pot regime.

The winner will also receive a six-day Intrepid independent tour to explore Cambodia post assignment and experience the country's rich history and culture.

"The aim of the scholarship is to provide a step up for a talented student seeking a career in broadcast media. The experience of documenting the work of the Fred Hollows Foundation will be, literally, eye-opening." said Simon Monk, CEO of World Nomads.

"While our core business is travel insurance, as a company, World Nomads aims to go beyond this, to provide a range of services such as on-line journals, podcasts, language guides - and the scholarship series - to inspire travellers to explore remote parts of the world, and to engage with local communities and support organisations such as Fred Hollows."

The scholarship is open to journalism, media, radio arts/communications students enrolled at recognised educational institutions who are fluent in English. Applicants must be available to travel between February 16 and February 28, 2008.

The winner will be required to record and edit a 10- to 15-minute podcast documentary about The Fred Hollows Foundation's eye camp in the remote Baray District. They will also be required to upload a daily diary and photos on the World Nomads' website.
