Entertainment Industries Council's 12th Annual Prism Awards Set for April 24, 2008

Record number of submissions for awards honoring accurate portrayal of substance abuse and mental health issues.

Los Angeles, CA (Billboard Publicity Wire/PRWEB ) December 21, 2007 -- The Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) has set the 12th Annual PRISM Awards ceremony for April 24, 2008 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The awards, which honor movies, music and television's top shows that accurately depict and bring attention to substance abuse and mental health issues, will be taped for telecast and showcased at a Congressional reception in Washington next fall. FOX Networks Group President and CEO Tony Vinciquerra will once again serve as honorary chair of the Awards Committee, and final deadline for submissions is January 7, 2008.

"The Entertainment Industries Council has already received over 400 submissions for the PRISM Awards," said EIC President and CEO Brian Dyak. "We are far ahead of where we were last year, which clearly demonstrates that there's an ever-growing library of good works -- productions that depict real-life health issues such as substance abuse, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, depression and suicide prevention. The general public gets much of their information about these important subjects from what they see in the media. Through the PRISM Awards, EIC honors the entertainment industry for getting it right and for a job well done."

The Fox Networks Group remains committed to the PRISM partnership
"The Fox Networks Group remains committed to the PRISM partnership," said Vinciquerra. "We stand with the other networks, production companies, studios and music companies who recognize that these artistic works illuminate important social issues that touch us all."

So far, EIC has received PRISM award submissions from such hit shows as CSI, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy, Lost, ER, House, The Simpsons, Criminal Minds, Ugly Betty, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and many other series. Honorees are selected by a 60-person committee of entertainment industry professionals and technical experts from the fields of medicine, mental health and addiction. The PRISM Awards will again be presented by EIC in partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and FX Network.

This year's ceremony will also include a tribute to the 25th anniversary of the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. and its service to the industry and to the public.

EIC, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1983 by leaders of the entertainment industry to bring the power of the industry to bear on health and social issues. The organization is considered to be the grand daddy and chief pioneer of entertainment advocacy outreach and one of the premiere success stories in the field of entertainment education and information resources for entertainment creators, through innovative and time-proven services and methods of "encouraging the art of making a difference" from within the entertainment industry.

Among the issues EIC addresses are: drug, alcohol, and tobacco use and addiction; firearm safety and injury prevention; sun safety and skin cancer prevention; human trafficking; terrorism and homeland security; mental health and mental illness, including bipolar disorder, depression and suicide; diabetes; seat belt use and traffic safety; and HIV/AIDS prevention. EIC's website is located at www.eiconline.org.
