The National Sensors, Surveillance, and Biometric Technologies Center of Excellence, a program of the National Institute of Justice operated by International Biometric Group (IBG), is pleased to announce its upcoming webcast: Biometrics in Correctional Facilities, to be held Thursday, May 29th, at 1 pm ET.

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 28, 2008 -- The National Sensors, Surveillance, and Biometric Technologies Center of Excellence, a program of the National Institute of Justice operated by International Biometric Group (IBG), is pleased to announce its upcoming webcast: Biometrics in Correctional Facilities, to be held Thursday, May 29th, at 1 pm ET.

Increasingly stringent authentication laws and requirements, improved technology price-to-functionality ratios, more complex inmate processing needs, and the availability of government technology funding has improved the practicality of using biometric technologies in correctional facilities.

Center of Excellence Analyst and IBG Consultant Joy Kasaaian will spend 30 minutes discussing the use of biometrics in correctional facilities, including:

  • Overview of prison operations and areas for using biometrics
  • Use cases of biometrics in correctional facilities
  • Comparing iris recognition, fingerprint, and hand geometry
  • Lessons learned
  • What the Center of Excellence can do for your prison

Tasked by the U.S. Department of Justice, IBG established and operates the National Sensors, Surveillance, and Biometric Technologies Center of Excellence to support the Justice's law enforcement and corrections biometrics and surveillance technology projects, including concealed weapons detection, through-the-wall surveillance, novel sensors, and biometric technologies. Supporting more than 19,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide, the Center will work closely with government and law enforcement to identify technology requirements, support NIJ R&D programs, test, evaluate, and demonstrate technologies, support the adoption of new technologies, develop technology guidelines, and provide technology assistance and support.
