Bob Reccord, of John's Creek, to Visit Mathare Valley, Kenya and Participate in HopeWalk Africa
Total Life Impact's Chairman, Bob Reccord, will travel to the heart of Africa and into the epicenter of poverty. HopeWalk is a week-long event to raise awareness and money for desperate people of Mathare Valley, Kenya, by giving these leaders an up-close encounter with the area's dire need for help.
Springfield, MO (PRWEB) May 27, 2007 -- Dr. Bob Reccord is participating in HopeWalk, a project of the nonprofit compassion organization, Convoy of Hope. Serving as an International Ambassador for Hope Walk, Bob Reccord has a significant experience in compassion ministry as he oversaw one of the three largest disaster relief organizations in America for nine years.
The 1.2 x 0.2 mile Mathare Valley is the oldest slum in Nairobi, Kenya; 600,000 people live on top of one another in unimaginable conditions that help propagate the extremely high HIV rate. Those who find work make around $1 a day.
Funds raised through HopeWalk will benefit a number of Mathare Valley projects including the Mathare Children Development Center (MCDC). Education there is invaluable as it provides a way out of an impossible situation; each of the 400 students also receives a school uniform and a daily meal. Convoy of Hope sponsors the feeding program at MCDC, and through HopeWalk anticipates raising enough funds for the school to serve 1,000 children.
Hal Donaldson, Convoy of Hope President, has been passionate about the critical needs there after seeing it for himself, "HopeWalk will not only raise funds, but will also increase international awareness of the devastating conditions in Mathare Valley." Donaldson is excited about the long-term impact HopeWalk will have on the area, "For the participants, who represent churches and businesses across the U.S., the journey will undoubtedly be life-changing and eye-opening. I'm confident that upon their return home, these community leaders will encourage others to join the fight against poverty."
"Convoy of Hope is one of the most effective, and efficient, non-profit organizations I have seen, with an 'exemplary' rating from the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. They have been a significant force in the Relief efforts for Katrina, Rita and Wilma as well as the recent tornadoes. In addition, they have impacted 50 countries overseas. I am honored to use part of my time serving such an outstanding organization that cuts across denominational lines to meet people's needs, and through it, open their heart."
