Online Backup Leader Completes Move to New Data Center

Data Protection Services (DPS), the leading provider of online backup services for business clients, has completed its move to its new facility in Hammond, LA, and the closure of all operations in New Orleans.

(PRWEB) November 5, 2007 -- Data Protection Services (DPS), the leading provider of online backup services for business clients, has completed its move to its new facility in Hammond, LA, and the closure of all operations in New Orleans. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, DPS had one of its data centers located in the city. Despite incredible odds, the company kept its data center fully operational both during the disaster and in the months following. Jeff Danos, CEO of DPS, said, We are truly proud of how we performed during this very difficult period. Our people in the New Orleans area were not spared from the disaster, yet they continued to carry out their jobs under extremely challenging conditions."

added Danos, but we are now totally in our new facility and have shut down New Orleans completely. Atlanta and Hammond are now our primary storage centers, and we couldnt be happier with how things have worked out. The new facility in Hammond was designed to our very high standards and is equipped with two emergency generators powered by dual fuel sources and served by multiple fiber feeds.
Although the data center in New Orleans performed well, the transportation restrictions presented obstacles that DPS knew could be easily avoided by a move to another location. Not wanting to repeat the experience of Katrina, the search for a new site started almost immediately after the storm. DPS possessed unique insight into choosing a location based on the companys experience during Katrina, and within months the company selected Hammond, a university town located in central Louisiana with an average elevation of 100+ feet above sea level. Served by major north-south and east-west Interstate systems, Hammond offered both the safety and accessibility that the company was looking for.

Operating out of leased facilities for the first 18 months, the company realized the leased space could not accommodate the massive bandwidth necessary to move all the New Orleans operations to Hammond. DPS then started the search for a facility that could be meet its requirements, completed its purchase of a permanent facility in early 2007, and gradually began phasing out operations in New Orleans.

An online backup company is built on continuous operation, so insuring our clients were not affected required that the transition be a gradual one," added Danos, but we are now totally in our new facility and have shut down New Orleans completely. Atlanta and Hammond are now our primary storage centers, and we couldnt be happier with how things have worked out. The new facility in Hammond was designed to our very high standards and is equipped with two emergency generators powered by dual fuel sources and served by multiple fiber feeds."

With a commitment to service unequaled in the online backup industry, Data Protection Services is constantly working to improve the delivery of quality online backup. Adds Danos, We had discussed purchasing and designing a new facility for a while. Hurricane Katrina was the force that made the decision easy, and its really exciting to be in a facility custom designed for delivering our business clients the ultimate in safe, secure backup and storage."
