New Political Site Digs Up What Really Matters in '08
Issue-based VoteGopher.com launched by Harvard students.
Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) November 15, 2007 -- A new interactive website created by Harvard students does what few political news sources do: concentrates on key issues and targets young voters. VoteGopher.com provides real information for real people in a direct, easy-to-understand way. The non-partisan site encourages more popular participation in the 2008 presidential primaries and general election. It presents detailed summaries of the presidential candidates' positions on sixteen different issues, and its users can discuss the candidates' platforms and submit the best election-related videos, news articles, quotes, and blog postings from around the Internet.
Already, VoteGopher.com is generating excitement from the national media. Adam Nagourney, Chief Political Correspondent for The New York Times, called the site "unusually extensive…in the range of issues it covers" and "a valuable resource to anyone paying attention to the 2008 campaign." VoteGopher is listed on The New York Times' political blogroll and on The Politco's Campus Politico homepage. Maralee Schwartz, former National Political Editor and current Deputy Business Editor of The Washington Post, called the site "more comprehensive and lively than anything I've seen out there."
VoteGopher was founded by Will Ruben, Harvard College Class of 2010. "The information is all out there," Ruben says. "But VoteGopher compiles, distills, and explains it in a way that makes it easier for voters to focus on the issues that matter to them. I hope voters will use our site to make informed choices on Election Day."
Ruben also hopes that VoteGopher will "inspire Americans under 30 to learn about the election and ultimately vote." "Our generation needs to have a say in shaping the future of our country," he says. "Voting is the best way to tell our representatives that we care about the America we will inherit."
This summer, Ruben recruited a team of writers and editors to compile VoteGopher's non-partisan position summaries. His team of college students from around the country - mostly Harvard undergraduates - researched news publications, debate transcripts, official campaign materials, and videos before compiling unbiased and accessible information about all of the campaigns and candidates. Ruben's Harvard roommate, Alex Lavoie, is VoteGopher's COO and Marketing Director. "VoteGopher is a great way for us to spread our passion for politics," says Lavoie. "We take our slogan, 'We dig, you decide,' seriously. I hope is that our peers across America will use VoteGopher to get informed and then get out and vote."
