Iowa Barbershop Counters Hair Loss by Offering Hair Restoration Procedure

The only board-certified hair restoration physician in Iowa is now performing a restorative procedure exclusively at Signature Male, an upscale barber shop and day spa for men. The procedure, for both men and women, reconstructs the hairline and adds density.

Des Moines, IA (PRWEB) February 22, 2008 -- The only board-certified hair restoration physician in Iowa is now performing a restorative procedure exclusively at Signature Male, an upscale barber shop and day spa for men. The procedure, for both men and women, reconstructs the hairline and adds density.

The result is a natural look with no "doll's hair" appearance. Dr. Reese - who has treated thousands of patients and was designated one of America's Top Surgeons by the Consumer Research Council of America - said patients "are guaranteed to look natural; people are not going to believe they've had a hair transplant."

It's a way to differentiate us from our competitors.
John Salak received hair restoration at Signature Male last winter. He said his complimentary consultation gave him confidence to get the procedure, and the friendliness and professionalism of Dr. Reese and his staff calmed his nerves.

"I was just one of those guys who was never happy with my hair," Salak said. "I'd looked at the hair club and some of those other things. I think it was just coming in [to Signature Male and talking about it and seeing reports from past patients - I decided, well, let's just do this."

Salak's hair was thinning in the crown region and "bilateral zones," or the two areas at the front of the hairline just above the temples. Dr. Reese reconstructed Salak's frontal hairline and added density to the top of his head. Now Salak's transplanted hair is growing naturally and he is pleased with the results.

"Going into it, you're never sure what's going to happen," Salak said. "Dr. Reese and his staffwere awesome. It was a good experience. I'm really happy with it."

The procedure takes a few hours. Most patients find they return to their normal routine the next day. "It's truly not disruptive to people's lives," Dr. Reese said.

According to Dr. Reese, hair loss affects about 50 percent of all adults. Doug and Jana Van Polen, the husband-and-wife team who owns Signature Male, decided to offer hair restoration as an added value to their clients concerned about thinning hair.

Unlike Bosley facilities which only perform hair restoration, Signature Male treats the procedure as an additional item on its service menu, along with haircuts, massages and other salon and spa services. Both the initial consultation and the procedure itself take place on site, in private rooms of the spa. The advantage of this is comfort and convenience, especially for Iowa residents, who would have to travel out of state to visit a Bosley surgical office.

"We're taking the salon and spa industry to the next level," Doug Van Polen said. "It's a way to differentiate us from our competitors."

In addition to hair restoration for the scalp, Signature Male offers it for facial hair, including eyebrows - a service that appeals primarily to women, who may have experienced the long-term effects of tweezing. Another option is low-level laser therapy (now FDA-approved), a treatment that stimulates hair follicles in the scalp to promote growth.

Signature Male offers free consultations Monday through Friday, available by appointment. Financing for the restoration procedure is available.
