ON Networks Introduces New Food Line-up That’s
Sure to Tantalize Tastebuds
Shows Offer Twists and Turns, Rock ‘n
Roll & A Little Bit of Mad Science to Food
AUSTIN, Texas (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) August 17, 2007 --
With a respectful nod toward traditional cooking
shows, new media company ON Networks (ON) whips up some culinary
twists with its new line-up of online food shows, which combine
ingredients of music, comedy, science and health in a tempting, original
mixture that’s nothing less than a cook’s
delight.
The 3- to 10-minute weekly shows are part of ON Networks’
collection of smart, short-form entertainment that can be watched
anytime, anywhere and on any device. ON Networks is one of the largest
providers of original, high-definition content that is compatible for
all Apple platforms, including the iPhone, iPod and Apple TV.
ON Networks’ new food shows are designed to
capture the imagination of foodies and beginner cooks alike with a range
of creative formats that include:
-
Dinner with the Band —
Raiding the fridge and rocking out with some of today’s
best bands. This virtual mash-up of cutting-edge cuisine with
indie music provides behind-the-scenes interviews and performances
with some of the industry’s hippest
up-and-coming musicians. The show is hosted by New York City chef Sam
Mason who invites his favorite touring bands to share an intimate
evening of cooking, conversation and live performance. Inventive menu
items include paella, halibut with butterscotch miso sauce, and black
olive cobbler – paired with tales from life
on the road and exclusive musical performances.
The inaugural season of Dinner with the Band showcases
intimate performances by Pela, El-P, Tokyo Police Club, Holy Hail,
Cities on Fire, Matt and Kim, Pigeon John and F@cked Up.
-
Budget Health Nut —
Culinary cheapskate demonstrates five-star flavor on a two-star budget.
Designed to show consumers how to enjoy smart, healthy cooking without
breaking the bank, host Joe Dias provides real-world advice on
shopping, food preparation, calorie crunching and cost savings for his
meals. With a focus on moderation, portion size and fresh ingredients,
Joe’s meals are critiqued by a registered
dietitian for its nutritional value and calorie count. This culinary
cheapskate also requires that his meals cost less than $25 to feed 4-8
people.
From brisket and enchiladas to catfish and eggplant parmesan, Budget
Health Nut provides healthy, home-cooked meals that outshine
budget-and-pants-busting eating-out alternatives.
-
Stump the Chef —
One seasoned chef, three random ingredients and three tough judges. A
punchy cooking show with the flair of early TV game shows, Stump
the Chef is Price is Right meets Iron Chef. In each
episode, award-winning Chef Matt Weaver is presented with three random
ingredients – such as liver, day-old French
fries and olives – and challenged to create
an edible dish by adding only a few standard pantry items. All the
while, two “wannabe-foodies”
joke and provide running commentary along the way, questioning whether
Matt will succeed at winning a “thumbs up”
from three judges. No matter what crazy ingredients are placed in
front of him, Matt gets creative and always reminds viewers: “Don’t
be afraid of the kitchen.”
Check out the first season as Matt wins kudos from judges for his
creative cuisine – because the second season
of Stump the Chef (which premieres August 20) promises even
greater challenges and tougher critics.
-
Food Science —
The ins, outs and believe-it-or-nots of food. Funny and
charismatic host Dr. Kiki Sanford delights everyone in the kitchen by
talking about the mysteries and seemingly capricious happenings that
occur with food and cooking. Audiences will learn about food creation
and preparation, cool tools for cooking, and fun food science
experiments that make great party tricks. With a Ph.D. from
U.C.-Davis, Dr. Kiki Sanford also hosts “This
Week in Science” radio show and podcast
from KDVS-FM.
Whether it’s using liquid nitrogen to make
ice cream or explaining the science behind Teflon, Food Science
is certain to entertain and inform foodies, geeks, and gadget guys and
gals alike.
“Food is an important content category across
all forms of media,” says Jen Grogono, ON
Network’s co-founder and vice president of
content at ON Networks. “Our shows are
entertaining and informative with a twist –
they discover new ways of looking at and enjoying food.”
